Install the chipset from the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Oh and i had a look. On acer and they list my x3400 but have no frivers and the tower is different. They list an x3400g where they have drivers and tower is the same. Should i try the x3400g drivers?

What is the error given when it refuses to install?

After downloading the file, rightclick to extract the files from the installer package then rightclick Setup (Application) to run as Administrator.

If you can extract the files take note of the location and then in Device Manager from the Co-Processor device choose Update tab, then Update Driver, then Browse to the location where the file is unzipped to see if it will pick up the driver.

Thankyou gregrocker and all others that helped fix this little problem. I managed to get it done and installed sucessfully. what does the coprocessor actually do

Hi damon86, the coprocessor used to do the math on the old 8086 processors ( the floating point) nowadays it is no longer required to that extent as we have multicore processors capable of doing it , have a look here What is coprocessor :)

What is the Coprocessor and what driver is needed? - TechSpot Forums

is about the best explanation of what it is in this case.

in this case, it was not a coprocessor but a flaw between the Win 7 sub-system and the lack of a specific Nvidia driver. The hardware ID pointed to part of the chipset. I am not sure why this did not show up in other OS's on the same computer (such as Vista and XP) but it seems to be a fairly common problem for Win 7, more specifically a Nvidia problem as opposed to MS or AMD.
