I have been facing this problem since long.
Everytime i try to update windows IE9 for windows7 for x64based system, the installation fails with the error code 9c48.
i tried everything from microsoft fix it and following other steps but none helped. even i had checked with other webstes from google but all were of no use. even disabling antivirus and trying to install does not work.
(i already have IE9 and even uninstalling that also doesnt work)

Any help will be highly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

mr noel,

Thanks

I've uploaded a file - a81aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder a8111 in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

The new SFC log is error free - but obviously the CBS report includes data from the files that the CheckSUR found.

Mr Noel,
i have copied as you said.
Actually im dumb about this computer stuff.
When you said,"Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file."

i dont know where do i find the tool. i can just see "CheckSurSqm.dat" in that folder.
And one more thing, all the manifests and packages you asked to copy appears to be locked after i copy to my folder (locked appears on left side of the names)

Do you mean to say, run the sfc/scannow again?

You ran the CheckSUR tool as part of the Windows Update Posting Instructions (#1) - please follow those instructions again.

One more issue. now when i try to check for updates, i dont get to see the update, i.e the Window IE9 for windows x64. when i checked in the update history it is not even showing as successfull.

The CheckSUR still shows the following error
Unavailable repair files:
winsxs\manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-ie-winsockautodialstub_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.20562_none_65286ced49ab4c20.manifest

but all others have been fixed

I'll post the fix protocol for that one in a minute.

If you open Internet Explorer and click on the 'Gearwheel' at top right - select About Internet Explorer.
What does it say is the installed version now? (I'll take odds that it's IE9.x already)

Yeah :)
The type of error you had can lead to all sorts of strange entries in the WU listing ;)

Is it okay or still I had check on my old error problems.

You have a couple of errors present from the IE10 install.
I'll post a fix for them later.

Thanks Mr Noel for the help.
But since this IE 10 is a tester, what will happen if I come back again to IE9.
And why that update was not showing up ( the one for which I was getting the error code in the 1st post).

If you've only just installed it, it should be the release version.
(Sorry - didn't get to the fix last night... I'll do it first on the list today)

I downloaded recently but I guess that was the test drive version.
may be you would get to know better.
one more problem I forgot to add. when I used to get the error code, those days I wasn't able to view any videos in IE9 except from Youtube. but I used to view them through google chrome.
(I have the flash player 11).
Even now with IE10 im having the same issues that I cant view the videos.
Please help.
