Does your display model number show up in the device manager, or is it a generic device? If it's generic, try to find and install drivers for your monitor. See if that makes a difference.

Have you tested your system without the KVM, to completely rule out anything else causing the issue?

Remember that this isn't XP - it's Windows 7. In order to isolate the problem to the KVM, you need to remove it and make sure everything works without the KVM installed.

sorry, this is my very first experience with anything past XP...i'll move the monitor straight into the machine. i wonder why 7 would have an issue with a KVM...?

just swapped out the monitor cables and put it to sleep...works fine. woke back up and monitor came on...

would W7 have an issue with being in a particular channel on the KVM? or does W7 have issues with KVMs? or at least older ones...

There's a white paper about 7 and KVM switches. It might be worth a quick review.

Display Guidelines for KVM Switches in Windows 7

There's also another thread about KVM switches on this forum.

http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/2161-keyboard-mouse-not-recongnized-kvm-switch.html

It might be that 7 requires a bit more than your old KVM switch provides. Is it possible to borrow a newer USB type KVM switch for testing purposes?
unfortunately no...nobody i know uses a KVM...i feel like i'm the last of that breed...but its nice when switching back and forth between my server, gamer and work laptop...and its tough to find a good cheap 4port KVM...i've been drooling over some of the USB KVMs tho...just don't have the $ to do it...

i'll have to check out those other threads you referenced above.

You're definitely not the last of that breed. It's just that most people don't have three towers/laptops sharing one monitor/keyboard/mouse. As such, the market shifted to business and government applications, which is why all the nice ones cost a bunch of $$$!

oh and one other thing after reading those threads...i don't have anything else currently connected to the KVM at this time...so i'm not switching channels at all...the PC goes to sleep...i come back in and wake it up...and no monitor...i have to change channels for the monitor to wake up. just FYI

Definitely not the last of the breed, I am also using a KVM (IOgear extreme miniview 4 port and love it, price point was good, about $250 if I remember correctly with all cabling required for 4 machines included). Server, Win7 PC, Win7 laptop on docking station, Ubuntu desktop from one keyboard and mouse. I personally find it more helpful to use separate monitors for each machine but RDP works for accessing my server and no issues with monitor if I run it through the KVM. I just don't like losing the display when I choose to switch to another machine if I am programming or tweaking.

Are you using Hot Keys to switch between machines or is it purely a switch issue?

currently i do not have any other machine connected to my KVM...my MB recently took a crap in my gamer and my wife is using my laptop at the moment...it all worked fine w/XP...i have not had the laptop in the docking station since installing W7 on this machine...so i don't know if there will be added issues with switching between the two. most generally i hot-key between units tho...

I'm having similar issues with Windows 7 recognizing my usb keyboard/mouse on my KVM switch. Windows 7 will recognize the monitor, but not the keyboard/mouse. I'm pretty convinced there's a setting buried somewhere that I'm missing, but... the KVM switch I'm currently using works fine with older OS and was pretty affordable. 4 Port KVM with cables for 40.00... 30.00 with rebate (it also does speakers and mic). I love NewEgg. :D

Newegg.com - Rosewill RKV-4UC 4 Port USB Cable KVM, 1.2m Cable Built with Speaker Mic Remote Flip Button - KVM Switches

only one last glitch... getting it to work with Win 7. The specs say it's compatible. The search goes on...

..ok... so I'm an idiot. A couple of corrections to the last post, if anyone's interested.. the KVM referred to was 50.00 with a 10.00 rebate (not 40.00 with a rebate). And.. while the switch did come with cables so that was one less expense, two of the ports were bad. Mine was NOT a window 7 issue. Mine was a user-headspace error. :o

Once I pulled all the CPU's out and actually tested the multiple cables, I found that two cables worked and two did not. I just got a bad one and didn't figure it out before the return period had expired.
