Compatibility Problem In Windows7

Help! I Had Mixcrografx Draw6 on my old XP machine and when MS stopped support of XP, I bought a new PC running Windows7 Home. I transferred all my files and settings from the XP machine to the new Windows7 machine.
But on the new machine Draw6 will not open. Not even in compatiblity mode.
I have some important files with the .drw extension but not able to access them.
Does anyone know of a program that will open and edit the .drw files?

Try right clicking the applications installer file or the program after its installed and choose troubleshoot compatibility.

Having said that, a newer version of corel draw is available and can open your previous files:

Check Gimp - it's a very good graphics editor
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

There's a learning curve, but.... every graphics editor has a leaning curve.

Edit: gimp does not support the .drw format

Yes, more then 12 year old program Some programs said to ope .drw files are Microsoft Picture It, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, and Corel PaintShop Photo Pro. None are cheap! A Guy

Sorry Gimp does not support .drw - it is a great editor thoigh.

I have used this to convert Paint Shop Pro files and it worked well.

I have never used this - it might be worth a look though.

Since you have a new machine with Win7, I'm guessing that the XP machanie is still operable. You could simply convert the important images on the XP machine using Draw6 to a more current format. It's usually better to convert files using the original software if possible.

Pick a replacement graphics editor (test drive a few free apps) and see what Draw6 can export or write - I don't know if it's important t you to keep the images in vector format - but that is a consideration when researching replacement apps.

A long shot - try launching Draw6 with elevated privilges (Right click, Run as administrator)
