I have just checked my today's update list & yes it has been installed. No problems & no restart required.

It is shown in Installed Updates as KB2952664. So you can check if it is installed.

fireberd: It only came through this morning here in Australia, as we get most of the Tuesday updates on the Wednesday, owing to the time difference.

I've hide this update...i will certainly not upgrade my retail Dvd Windows 7 OS to Windows 8.1 through an upgrade. I'll do clean install of new OS.

I've hide this update...i will certainly not upgrade my retail Dvd Windows 7 OS to Windows 8.1 through an upgrade. I'll do clean install of new OS.

I don't see any situation where I'm ever going to downgrade W7 to W8.

That's an update made for pre-installed Windows 7 OS....no need for retail versions or one dying urgently of an OS upgrade through a download...!:shock:

I could be wrong, but this seems more likely to be indicative of a soon-to-be Windows 7 SP2 (Service Pack 2). I vaguely remember similar language for an update not long before SP1. And a similar update my sister refused to install before XP's SP3, the results of which were disastrous. I would assume that the upgrade disc/installer for Windows 8 or 8.1 would include any necessary precursors for the upgrade or at least download them itself at the time of install.

EDIT: Just seen a Support Engineer's clarification of this update on the Microsoft forums:-

Thaere will be NO SP 2 for Win 7.
It's that simple.

I may be assuming more than I should, but she and I had nearly identical setups & her SP3 failed, but mine didn't. The only difference I recall being that I installed the precursory update, but not her. That was a VERY long time ago though, so who knows.

Thanks for pointing us to that Microsoft thread BTW. Nice to have clarification. I've installed the update with no apparent problems so far.

If you re-read post #13 you'll understand why SP3 was referred to in this thread, it was in relation to XP as a precedent to the kind of wording used in relation to this latest update for Windows 7.

I tried to download the iso from there program to download only with prodoct key. It was somewhat working but it kept failing to connect but now it just won't pop-up. I'm going to try the update.

I just extracted the files from the installer, and it seems to be updating aeinv.dll, aepdu.dll, devint.dll, wica.dll(Windows Install Compability Advisor). It seems real...
