Completely remove Office 2016

When offered a low-cost way to get Office 2016 I installed it on my Win 7 64 bit computer. I still had Office 2010 installed and the Office 2016 ran ok. I did not like it nearly as much as I liked Office 2010, so I uninstalled it. I've gotten rid of ALMOST all evidence it was ever on my machine; however, I'm chasing a problem with gmail POP3 not connecting to the server and when I went to follow instructions for creating a new email profile to test connections, I found that my control panel shows Outlook 2016 (see screenshot). When I click on it I get an "Application not found" error. I'm trying to have that removed from my control panel and have it replaced by Outlook 2010.

I went into the registry trying to get rid of the Outlook 2016, so I found what appears to be Office versions 8 through 16 (I deleted the 16, assuming it was Office 2016). Can I delete the Office 8, 9, and 11 versions in this registry folder? What about the Outlook version that doesn't appear as a subfolder to any numbered Office version? Can I delete it w/o problems? I've attached a screenshot that shows what I'm talking about.

I know I'm on the verge of working in areas I don't understand, but I know there are a lot of mighty smart fellows in these forums.
Regards, Patrick

Ranger4,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I'd already carefully followed all the instructions in that MS link you provided before reaching out to the Win7 Forum. The only thing I did NOT do was to follow through completely with the automatic removal (instead I did the manual removal). That was because the documentation in the 2nd or 3rd click into that procedure stated that it was to completely remove Outlook from my computer. It did NOT specify that it was just to remove Outlook 2016.

I surely did NOT want to remove my Outlook 2010, just the Outlook 2016.

As for removing registry items, I understand that practice can be risky - that's why I am asking before I remove any more.

Do you have any idea how to remove the Outlook 2016 from the MAIL item in control panel? I suspect it is another registry item. That's an empty link, but I apparently need to have it gone before it will populate w/Outlook 2010. And, it appears I have to have that item populated with Outlook 2010 in order to create an additional Outlook profile?!
Regards, Patrick

Thanks for getting back. You may need to find your Outlook 2016 .pst files, which should be in your Documents Folder under Outlook Files. Also check if your Outlook 2010 .pst files are there as well. It's quite possible that Outlook 2016 may be using the same .pst files, so don't remove any at this stage.

You will probably then need to open Outlook 2010 & click on File & then Account Settings & point Outlook to those .pst data files.

Once you have Outlook 2010 working properly & all your email files & folders are where they should be, you should be up & running.

As far as the wording of the Mail applet in Control Panel is concerned is probably of little consequence & I don't know how to change that.

As a final operation you could do a Repair of Office 2010. To do that open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2010, Right Click on it & select Repair. This should open a couple of Repair options to run.

Also check that Office 2010 is up to date as well.

Hello Again Ranger4,

I don't know how to identify Outlook 2016 .pst files. I know where all the .pst files are on my machine, but I don't remember seeing anything that identified them as 2010 or 2016??

Now I have another mystery. I've gotten my Outlook 2010 working fine at home; however, it no longer works at my office? I keep getting there a "Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified..." I've tried multiple times using different encryption and no encryption from my office (I'm on a "guest" connection there) w/o any success. Up till about 4 days ago it worked fine from my office.

Any suggestions? FYI, it's not something I can get any help from the IT dept here at City Hall.

Thanks again for your assistance attempts.

Regards, Patrick

If I may make a suggestion.

Your work computer is a government computer on a government network/domain
(City Hall) and you are logged in as a Guest, you will need to work with the I.T. Department to make any changes.
I.T. Departments don't like people fooling with their systems or computers.
Fact is they try to stop others from fooling with the system under their control without their knowledge and permission.

I'm not doing, or attempting to do anything to the City's system. I was just saying that because my issue is a personal computer issue, I cannot get support from the IT department, even though I'm using their GUEST wifi for ISP.

It seems that you only have to get the matching encryption for it to work at the office. Surely there is someone there that will help you with that.
