Our laptop, Acer, windows home basic, cannot open normally. it says that a something in the hard disk is causing it to malfunction. so, we tried to do system restore. unfortunately, it says that there is no restore point existing. how can we fix this?

Do you have all your important files backed up? you CAN re install over the top of what you have and it will just make a new folder for your Windows to be installed to and put your OLD install into another folder.
What is the error that won't allow you to boot up? if it a blue screen? or, is it a specific file that is mentioned?
Some more background to your problem will get a better response. :)

Unfortunately it was our laptop at home that became like this. My mom just contacted me thru phone. No specific file was stated. Because the system repair isn't able to automatically fix the problem, the only choices are to log in as a local user to do system restore (which they did already) or through the command prompt (requiring user name and password).
(important files are not backed up)
