So This is a custom built PC which i setup-ed 2 days back. I have a weird problem.

The computer suddenly freezes during working or left idle (happens both ways) randomly. The power led which keeps blinking during normal working goes off and stops beeping when the computer freezes.
But the cooler fan and the other CPU LEDs keep running. Please help me fix this

My CPU configuration goes like this :
CPU : AMD FX8350
RAM: Corsair 8GB x 2 = 16GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 270x 2GB
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

Any kind of help is highly appreciated. :)

Did you check temperatures? Run one of these: speccy/core temp/hwinfo.

Make sure you have connected the PSU to components firmly.

I dont think temperature is the problem because if i restart the computer, everything becomes fine.
I had to long press the power button to restart though.. :/

I would suggest that you ensure your CPU Cooler is correctly seated on the CPU with fresh Thermalpaste. It may be that a clip is loose or not square, but it can cause these issues.

The Cpu temp at normal condition is at 30° max.
How ever the issue does not happen at high load temparature it happens randomly on normal - idle state which is why I think temparature could not be the problem here :/

Can there be any other factor behind this?

Isn't the stock cooler that comes with the processor enough to keep it cooled?

It should be enough with stock heatsink/fan as long as you don't overclock.
You can try disabling AMD Cool & Quiet, C1E and see if it helps. Also, apply a high performance power plan (Control panel - Power options)

Isn't the stock cooler that comes with the processor enough to keep it cooled?

Yes it most cases it is.

However, mistakes can be made in the build process which would mean that the cooler is not correctly seated with the CPU, or there is not enough Thermalpaste / too much thermal paste for the contact to not transfer the heat away effectively.

(I have done this in previous builds, it can happen)

Also, this seems very related to your issue -- Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Freezing Screen [Solved] - Asus - Motherboards or is it a coincidence?

Solution from that site --
Try raising the DRAM voltage + 0.05, and the CPU/NB voltage to 1.18

OK so i disabled AMD Cool & Quiet and C1E, and Raised the voltage of DRAM by 0.05.
Now which CPU/NB voltage am I supposed to change?

This is my BIOS settings
150602174636.png

and it shows the max value is 0.5V. Is this the voltage I am supposed to raise?
What am I supposed to do?

If you do not know the settings, I seriously suggest leaving the overclocks alone!

Bro, but I increased the voltage just by the values you've mentioned. Don't worry I'm good at this :) I'll update this thread if the issue occurs again. Thank you both :)

If the issue clears, try enabling Cool & Quiet, it is responsible to downclock the CPU clock and voltage. If alright enable C1E again, this one shuts down unused cores.

So the final report is here :P
Everything was fine from yesterday after we changed the DRAM, CPU/NB voltages and turning off Cool n' Quite and C1E. Today I decided to turn on both the Cool n quite option and the C1E option and the issue occured right on the windows boot screen itself. Then I did a search on "C1E freezes PC" issue and found a large number of people having this problem.

So finally I'm turning on cool n quite, resetting the DRAM, CPU/NB voltages and turning off C1E and everything is running perfect.
C1E was the culprit here.
