Solved Computer hanging on logoff - only when on domain

Hi All,

I have a very strange issue with the 10 new Dell Precision T1700's I've just bought.
Once the computers are added to the domain, they hang on logoff / restart / shutdown showing just a blank desktop and a mouse pointer. (Not the black desktop issue, the background image still shows).
This happens when using the local admin account, so no roaming profile issues here.
The computers hang for approx. 5-10 mins, although this has been much longer on occasion (up to 50 mins).
The hang happens before the "logging off" message, so diagnostic shutdown mode has been of no use.
Logging on has been fine, and I am discounting things like bad memory / hard disk as this is happening with every one.

Computer setup:
Dell Precision T1700 (mid 2013 model)
Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1
Samba 3.5.1 PDC
SSD boot disk, standard secondary disk.

Things I've tried:
Booting into safe mode - logs off fine
When not on domain - logs off fine
Clean boot - hangs
Samba 4.1.1 domain - hangs
Vanilla install of Win7 - hangs
Adjusting WaitToKillTimeout setting in registry - hangs
Updated all drivers - hangs
Using additional network card - hangs
No network cable - hangs
Full Windows Update - hangs
Disabling Windows Search service - hangs

I've been struggling with this for 3 days now, so any help / additional recommendations for testing you guys have would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Jon

Extra info:
ClearPageFile is not set
No AV installed
Firewall disabled
DNS is definitely working, both forward and reverse.

Update:
Looking in the Application event logs suggests this might be being caused due to event ID 6005/6006 "The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> took xxx seconds to handle the notification event (EndShell)".
No other errors / warnings are showing.
Only issue in the GroupPolicy log is event ID 7320 "Error: Computer determined to not be in a site. Error code xxx".
Samba is not deploying any GPOs to our PCs (they are applied locally).
gpupdate / force completes in 10-20 seconds from the command line.

I'm now giving up on this one.
Looks like the computers will logoff fine if they have been logged in for a certain amount of time.
I'm assuming that this is related to the GPO update frequency, however changing that to something really short didn't seem to help.
Our users should be fine though as they will be logged on for several hours before logging off.

Hate to dredge up a dead thread, but did you ever solve this JonM? Have been fighting it myself for weeks :(
