Computer keeps freezing...

This started when I applied two updates plus SP1. The computer now just freezes, the mouse keeps moving but everything else stops(Video,Audio etc..). I tried uninstalling SP1 but that didn't change anything and I looked for those two updates but the history shows 2/26/2011 as the installed date when I uninstalled SP1.

I tired a roll back, but that doesn't go back before I applied the two updates plus SP1 for some reason.

Any help? Thanks.
My computer is a Dell inspiron 580 Core i3-530
Windows 7 64 bit.

Wow that's weird, you're not using you CPU at all, let me ask you.

Do you experience this lock ups while doing something? or just like that...

Malwarebytes' anti-malware is a dedicated malware scan. probably the ones that MSE can't detect. so it's suggested for you to do it just to be sure that your PC is malware-free

are you getting "program not responding"?

lot of people having trouble with sata/ahci drives on windows 7, 64 bit.

while this isn't a FIX of the problem, I found disabling ahci in bios reduces the freezes. things still freeze when you do something that requires higher privileges (pretty much anything in control panel)

I suspect AHCI reads and operations require system privileges at some level. this is my theory for the issues I had found on my gf's family's computer. the thing that sucks is that it worked fine for 2 months (since xmas) and then became virtually unusable for anything including web browsing.
