Hey,

I just upgraded my computer to Windows 7 64 bit and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. One of the biggest issues I have is performance. Ever since I installed Windows 7 my computer lags so much that it's impossible to watch videos or listen to music and even type. Is this problem caused by my graphics card? My computer is fairly old so I have an on-board GeForce 6150 since my card fried a few months ago and I never got to buying a new one. Could this be the problem? Thanks.

My computer specs are:

Manufacturer: Packard Bell
Rating: 2.0
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20 GHz
Graphics card: GeForce 6150
Installed memory (RAM): 2.25 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System

I think your pc would be more suitable for windows xp as its old and doesnt have the requirements for windows 7 . Try dissabling most of the processes and services you dont need . Also look the topic in Tutorials on how to optimize Windows 7

My first step would be to either look into task manager or Process Explorer ( Process Explorer ) to see what's eating the CPU. Once you found the culprit, we can go from there. The 6150 should not be the general problem - except for certain games.
Also have a look into Device Manager whether anything is flagged in yellow for lack of proper drivers.

Btw: Win7 upgrade is not such a good idea. A clean install is a lot better. You can do that even with an upgrade disk.

Hello there

I dont think it is your computer's specs that is the problem even though win 7 64bit recommends 2gb memory. have you tried defrag the pc as this does cause win7 to bog down. depending on how much memory your onboard video requires this will deduct from the installed. i recommend installing 3gb so win 7 can have 2 of it to play with. addon video cards have their own memory on the card they use in the chips, but onboard pulls from the main memory

my laptop has 2.2ghz, 2gb 64bit hardware on it and it was slow when I installed win7, i thought of the probs i had with vista, but since defrag and running the disk cleanup. windows 7 runs like a champ for me with what hardware specs i use. try adding 1gb memory this may help you so you dont have to buy a new pc.

hope this helps you out.

If you actually upgraded (not clean install) that is the problem. I suggest that we start over and do a clean install. We can help and would like to. Its up to you.

You may want to consider the 32-bit of windows 7 as well; it only requires 1gb of ram instead of the 2gb required for 64-bit.
