Solved Computer Lagging (In All Aspects); Unsure of the Reason

Hi, I really need some help with this horrible lag my computer seems to have developed a about three days ago. I can't be sure of the reason because the last major thing I did before it all began was uninstall Microsoft Office 2010 so I could reinstall it once more. After that, it wasn't until the following day that I began to notice something strange. The music I played on my iTunes began to get stuck every so often and would loop a part of the song over and over for a few seconds before continuing like normal. After that, my computer started lagging more and more until everything I did on there was slowed. When I browsed the web with Chrome, it often froze and the annoying message asking me if I wanted to wait or kill the page would pop up. Restarting the computer didn't do much for it.

Since then, I've tried a few things to try and fix it; none of which has fixed it (though it has helped somewhat).

The first thing I did was download CCleaner and had it clean the temporary files off of my computer. The program got rid of 30,000 MB (which is amazing, but also a little worrying because I'm not sure it is possible to have had that much in temp files). It did help my computer move a little faster, but still, it is laggy overall. Then I attempted a system restore (to before I uninstalled MO 2010), in hopes that it would undo anything that I may have changed to cause the lag. Again, it helped my computer operate a little quicker, but not by too much. A few hours ago, I attempted a second system restore (back to the beginning of this year), and like the other attempts, it helped, but didn't fix the issue completely.

Now I'm wondering how I should proceed.

I built this computer myself about 3 years ago:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz 1.73 GHz
2.00 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
ASUS Xonar DG Audio Device
(The ASUS was the last hardware piece I installed into my computer, which I believe was more than half a month ago. It was also the last time I cleaned the inside of my computer tower.)

I know the RAM is unusually low, but I'm not sure that it can be attributed to the problem because I've always had that much RAM and it's never given me any visible problems before.

Anyway, any suggestions?

Would of thought system restore would ahve sorted it by undoing any changes ? strange
Have you tried a clean boot to eliminate any application conflicts ?

This will remove all startup programs and uneccessary services from launching at boot just leaving usual windows stuff

also try to check your system with a good antivirous, especially a rescue disk from here: https://support.kaspersky.com/4162

All right, so I tried the clean boot, and after about 2 hours of computer usage, it seems as though the problem hasn't come back. So now I've just got to figure out which background program is causing the lag. I'll also try the rescue disk if I feel the need to.
