I've tried googling and haven't been able to come up with a solution. My brand new custom built computer will randomly freeze. The only way to get it back is to reboot from the tower.

Install all your drivers, including the ones for your chipset. Run a memtest to check your memory, and run a stress test. Hopefully one of these will solve your issue, if not help you understand what may be causing it.

I updated my drivers, only one I'm not sure how to do is the one for the motherboard. I was using AVG, but I had an error in the event log show that it was a file in AVG, so I got rid of it and installed AntiVir.

I've ran a scannow that showed nothing wrong.

I had bad ram in the pc when I got it. I installed new ram and hadn't had any BSOD since then.

What is a stress test?

Event id 11 originating from wininit is usually caused by custom dlls being loaded. I've seen this happening because of kaspersky and comodo, although it could be caused by malware too. If AV scans have ruled out malware, try booting into safe mode and check whether the problem persists.

If the problems go away then you'll need to isolate the problem using Clean boot.

Recommended booting into safe mode and just leaving computer sit? as I really cannot do much, ie gaming, in safe mode, but the computer doesnt' seem picky about when it freezes, ie not based on gaming/surfing the net/sitting idle.
I don't have kaspersky or comodo. AV scans have repeatedly shown nothing.

So what would you prefer to do first? sort out your problems or game?

Figure the computers issue. So i will let it sit in safe mode while at work tonight and see if the issue happens again.

PC sat for ~3 hours in safe mode, no issues. Will leave it run all night and see.

I would check your drivers. Safe mode loads all generic drivers. Make sure you have 32 bit drivers if you have a 32 bit machine and 64 if you have a 64 bit machine.

From doing some reading, it seems that the motherboard is often the culprit in these cases, is there a possible test to run to help determine?

It's very possible that the motherboards settings are causing this problem, but unless you post your system specs it's impossible for anyone to help you with this problem. ;)
