Solved computer randomly shuts down

My PC randomly shuts down with no warning. This has happen 3 or 4 times over the last couple of years. I have done everything I can think of. I uploaded a video of what happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Lt9y9-bgg&sns=em. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Hello mcoomer this a desktop or lappy?

Can't quite make out from the clip what it is. Plus how old ir it mate?

Sorry just seen it has a 775 socket - is the cooler clogged with particulate?

Does it ever boot up so you can use the PC? Do you here any post beeps? If a desktop, have you pulled the side panel off and cleaned out the inside of case from dust and lent (using a can of compressed air)...the number one killer of a PC?

I'm running a desktop, sorry about the video quality but the point was t oshow it turning on and off by itself

I have cleaned it unplugged all new hardware. I replaced the power supply. When it works it warms great. Happens randomly for about a week or 2 at a time

Yes bass I sort of was thinking an overheat job as I had one just recently where the cooler was so clogged you couldn't see the top of the fins.

Was also thinking of the PSU for that matter too.

So go ahead mcoomer have a quick look inside mate always rule out the real simple stuff first then you can try stuff like memtest reseating gear etc before delving into the bowels of the OS.

more details are needed .. as i think the problem could be s/w or h/w
if it runs first and you can log in to windows then it restarts it self ... this could be a virus
and if u can not even log in ... it could be a PSU problem or any other electrical problem
once check are the beeps normal ?

Hey you could try a boot with a Ubuntu boot disk. Download the ISO make a bootable dsik and then set the BIOS to boot from the opto drive then you can hook up to the net for anything and also check your drive.

If it doesn't boot with the Ubuntu then there is something quite wrong.

A couple of links for you to follow I use a CD disk whenever I have a non bootable fix even if only to gather data back.

I don't think its a cooling problem. It will work for a year then do this for about 2 weeks then stop. Its really weird. Now its on and has been on all bight and might stay on most of the day.

One more thing, I can shut it completely down, sometimes when I come back it will be on. Like someone turned it on but noone is there.

OK, really weird. I was messing around checking all the wires and seem my power stitch(on off button) has a short. I tested with another, and everything seems OK.
Couple questions: 1. Would this cause the PC to shut down suddenly and randomly shut down like I was logging off?

Hum what AV have you on board? and plus if you could find it the motherboard specs? chipset version would be handy.
