Computer running slower that usual?

Hi,
I want to know why my computer isin't running as fast like it used to when I first bought which was about 6 years ago.
I ran a scan with both anti-virus and anti-malware both came back negative for infection. Here is how much my HD has:



It's nearing to the full mark everyday I use it. Help on this important issue please?

I used the clean install option since I upgrade from XP. No, I was not using Windows 7 6 years ago, I was using XP, I upgraded to 7 I believe this past summer.

why it's running slower than 6 years ago ... because now you are running windows 7 on 1Gb of ram - on a p4.

try loosing some progs - use ccleaner to tidy up your system ... run scandisk and finally defrag the HDD.

it will make some difference ... but think about another Gig of ram (ideally 2)

I did the above tasks I believe a few days ago and I still have the same lag effect afterwards. The idea about doubling RAM for me is kinda out of reach since I don't have the money to do it at this moment.

As a quick fix do you have access to a stick drive or sd card that you could set up as readyboost?

Yes I do, What will this program do? Do I lose information?

Not all drives will allow this feature but if it's a quick drive it should work nicely. Insert drive, go to my computer and right click on the drive, left click properties, click on readyboost and choose all of the drive or a portion to alot to readyboost.

Just use the available balance or transfer all data off the drive and use the whole thing!

My Flash drive doesn't meet the requirements for the readyboost.

Bummer as it could be a easy fix to add memory. I had 8gb sd working till I upgraded my OS drive and now it won't work because the drive is much faster and memory no longer needed. Any other drives available to try you can also use a card reader, any old CF drives around?

No, thats the only external memory source I got on me right now.

Wow, that's a good price! Thanks for finding this(+1 rep) I could buy this in the future. So what can I do while I make up my mind about buying the Flash Drive? I mean about the HD for the moment?

Just keep it scanned for viruses and I would double check all my start up programs in msconfig and do a hard disk clean up and defrag in accessories and tools.

Good luck and don't get to radical with the hard drive like clean installing, unless you really suspect a virus or malware. Just defrag it once or twice and really check the start up programs and keep stuff from running in the background !

They always say it helps when you free up disk space, so I think you should:

- Keep only programs you really need. Uninstall those you don't with Revo Uninstaller. Consider running some portable apps from a USB drive. Gain some extra bits of space by removing language files you won't ever use: check your programs folders to find and delete them.

- Clean up your system drive and delete old restore points.

- Move data from your HD to removable media, like CD and DVD, or to free online storage services, like Windows Live SkyDrive.

- Compress seldom accessed data you have to keep on the drive.

it is unfortunate you have any american realatives in california that would send you the ram if they were able to get it from me ?
