My computer has been beeping while in use. It is just a intermitent one beep. A few months ago I took it in to the shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. Tonight it was beeping and the system turned off. I am thinking it is a temperature problem. I checked the bios and it said CPU Temp is 62 C and System Temp is 45 C. It this the range it should be in? Thanks,

That is fairly high to see in BIOS. Your mobo has a very specific definition for the beep codes. Looking for them now.

Just this side of fast enough.
Check your CPU's recommended temp range here: CPU Temperature Chart

Monitor it more closely and possibly control fan speed for better cooling using Speedfan or Motherboard Monitor.

Check also in BIOS to see what temp is set to shut it down for safety to avoid overheating. I believe this is adjustable, but better to deal with the causes of overheating: blow out all of the dust with compressed air, make sure heatsink still has good paste, elevate laptop to get more air (or cooling pad) under it, add a case fan for tower, etc.

My Bios says warning temp at 75 C and shut down at 80 C. It is adjustable. It was five degrees lower, but I raised it a while back to see it that would do any good. I blew out the dust this past weekend. It was not dirty as I do that each month. == My case is 14.5 inches high. I guess that is a mid-tower? If it is possible, I would like to add a fan. Can I do that with this case?

Is there an opening or knockout in the back of the case for a case fan? If so, measure it to see what size fan fits there. See if this improves temps enough.

Does your BIOS track CPU temp or just case? If not you can check CPU with Speedfan.

If CPU is overheating, then definitely check the heatsink to make sure it is clean of all dust, carefully unsnap fan from heatsink to get both whistle clean.

If high temps continue then next carefully remove heatsink from processor to repaste according to instructions on thermal paste you buy at Radio Shack, etc.

Always guard against static shock by touching metal case at all times, being both as careful and thorough as possible.

Run your pc with the side case door off as a stop gap till you sort your problem!

Does your case come with dust filters? When was last time you cleaned/vacuumed them? Just read - last month!

My Socket A Barton 3000's have run at 50-54 for years! tried various coolers/various cases!

System/mboard temp 24C
Graphics? 33C
Barton CPU 51C
Hard drive 34C
All case fans on low speed!

You should aim at a closed case temp roughly 7 degrees above room temp after 1 hr!
Mine is running approx 3C over room temp. Spring temps!

62c is awful high for idle IMO. I recommend making sure the heatsink doesn't have dust buildup. You can usually unscrew the fan and take an ESD vacuum or canned air and blow out the heatsink. Most processors at idle with adequate cooling run in the 30's.

I found out what was causing my "beeping". My video card has a fan, but the metal part where it screws onto the case was hot to touch. I put a second fan in the area and no more beeping. I want to thank you for all of your help.

Similar Issue

Hi, I know that this issue is old, however I have the same mobo and the same frustrating issue.

I've just updated the bios and installed a new CPU to upgrade my computer a little bit, i was running Win 7 but had a nasty virus so i'm running XP on another drive atm.

Installed Pentium Dual core

Issue Random Beeps from Mobo

Troubleshooting
- Upgraded Bios
- Shutdown ALL beeping options in Win Xp as it case cause internal speaker to beep
- Replaced Intel CPU Fan with A/C Freezer 7 (incase the Intel fan was not sufficient)
- Ran Mem Test
- Changed HDD (main C: had sector issues in past)
- Installed Speed Fan CPU running at 51deg C (verified that these run sort of hot and that prompted installation of aftermarket Heatsync and Fan. normal op temp is 50 deg)
- CPU is fine as I personally tested it

I can not find any heated part of the Mobo that could be causing the issue. Please Help! It's def a heat prob and I can't find it!!! (Btw I can touch the heatsync and it is luke warm)

While waiting for the beep codes:

Why are you not running Win7 after infection? Is it cleaned up? Boot into Safe mode with networking and install, update and run full Malwarebytes scan on all drives. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Next install Avast 5, update and schedule Boot scan for all HD's, restart for deepest possible scan.

You cannot rule out critical infection of BIOS until you're sure you've cleaned up Win7 or wiped it's HD to clean reinstall.

Re:

Hi bigmck it's the exact Issue as the other guy, one short beep. As far as I know, Indication of high temp. I just can't find where the High Temp is.

I've blown out every spec of dust and unclogged all the fans (it was really dirty prior to installation of new CPU and no beeps)

The Win 7 Drive was Infected to the point where I started getting read errors, on the HDD. when I get my lazy ass around to recovering my data I'll most likely put win 7 back on and keep this OS on the little laptop drive, and pop it in when I have issues.

The Bios is fine, this issue was not happening with the old processor, I flashed the Bios to make sure if there were incompatibilities or issues with the old version everything would be resolved, it's also generally good to update when available.

Kelly, there are a couple of programs you can use to monitor CPU and GPU temps. I use MSI afterburner for GPU temps/fan control and and ASUS PC probe for CPU temps and fan speeds. Afterburner is the Rivatuner redone into an easy to use GUI. Use these and see where your temps are at.

Re:

Thank you for the GPU control, but I'm running the ECS 671T-M mobo. the other one only works for Asus.

The pentium D runs at 50deg normally, I think the mobo reports the temp 10deg higher than the internal temp, which i have access to via speed fan, but i can't figure how to turn the fan speed up : /

RE:

In earlier posts i had mentioned that I was Using Speed Fan. right now, i'm not doing anything and it's at 47 deg.

it will go up to 56-59 but never hit's 60.

I think I might see a bit of an issue though, I installed my Freezer 7 and it's blowing heat at the PSU off the snyc and trapping it near the mobo, i think that may be causing the issue. I don't think i can turn it the other way due to space issues, so i'm looking into another solution atm.
