Computer wakes up after seconds in sleep - Solved

Hello,
I'm new here and I have a problem with Windows 7.

I cannot use the sleep function! This is is so frustrating.. I used to put my computer to sleep all the time in XP. But when I upgraded to W7 a while ago, my computer just wakes up instantly after going into sleep mode, as if I was spamming the power button.

I have tried searching for answers, and one solution I have tried was the "network card activity problem". However, it didn't work.

Could anyone please help me with this, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

EDIT: See bottom post for solution

Type cmd in search while in an administrative account.
Right click cmd ....run as administrator

in cmd type this powercfg -lastwake

Do this the next time you have a problem and we can see the cause.

So you are telling me that you tried to put the computer to sleep, but it would not stay asleep. Then right away you took the powercfg test>

Want to know how to stop the keyboard from keeping it awake? If that is the cause.

Yes, and after I made the powercfg test I tried plugging my keyboard out, and hit "sleep" again. And the computer stayed in sleep.

After this, I tried unchecking the box "let this device wake up computer in sleep" in the properties for the keyboard, found in "device manager". This did not work.

Any suggestions?

That was going to be my suggestion, to turn it off from the device manager.

Any other ports you could try for the keyboard?

It works!

Previously I had my keyboard plugged in a front USB port (because in XP I had to "reset" the keyboard from time to time, haven't had this problem in W7 though).
I changed to a port in the back, and my computer will now sleep like a baby! :)

I can even have the "let this device wake up computer in sleep" box checked!

Funny how simple this was to solve.. I have scratched my head for hours, looking on google and reading several support forums before posting here.

Thanks Richard!

Do you want to know why I help out here? It is because it gives us such a great feeling to be able to help and then get that big TY and sometimes the smiley face. You are very, very welcome.

When the solution is difficult it is sometimes easier to find? Lol

Ty for the rep, that too is appreciated.
