There is no need to be a computer techhy. We will help you all you need. Just ask questions as they arise and don't do anything on blind faith without asking first.

So there are no choices in BIOS setup for SATA controller? If not then skip that step.

Hi Greg i followed your guide formatted and its still crashing but there are some windows updates one which refuses to update is for the silicon sata 3132 controller update and it wont load the latest driver either

What SATA controller driver is in the Device Manager now listed under IDE-ATA? Name, date and version number?

You can try the driver on the mobo's Downloads webpage which pretty old: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- If it won't install, try installing in Vista Compatibility Mode .

What BIOS version does it have now in BIOS setup or System Information? Compare to latest non-Beta on webpage.

What happens when it crashes? Is it generating a crash file we could have analyzed here for you? Look for C:\Windows\Minidump.

Driver Programs are not needed and counterproductive in Win7. You should enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) and then Check for Updates, install all rounds of Important and Optional Updates, with reboots, until no more are offered.

I asked you to look over the steps for what works best for Win7, based on tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Install the SATA controller I linked for you, see if that resolves the crash.

Read the changes provided in each BIOS update since your current version to see if its something you need.

Tried installing that driver but I get message not supported by windows 7
I have done a complete reinstall and I wish I had known that about driver programmes as it cost me $40,oh well I know that for next time

Once you enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then Check for Updates, what drivers are offered under Important or Optional?

Keep in mind that some important patches will also be offered which may be required before drivers will function properly. So install everything offered in both Important and Optional, with requested reboots, until there are no more offered when you Check for Updates.

Then check Device Manager for any missing drivers signified by a yellow !.

In addition make sure you've enabled a dump file for crash data to be written into in case of continued crashes, so our analysts in Blue Screen forum can analyze the cause:
Go to Start and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Click on the Advanced tab Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes) Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

I followed your advice and have had six crashes but none of them generated any minidump messages they were all stop messages as previously mentioned

The crashes only happen after complete shutdown if I attempt to boot up the pc by going through startup repair I eventually get windows to load but this has always been the problem after a system up update some 18 months ago,but the sata driver wont load for some reason,we even changed the ram, hard drive, processor, and graphics card but we got the same results.

Did you try installing the ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M2N32-SLI Premium VISTA Edition Vista chipset and SATA driver in Compatibility Mode?
What does the compatibility advisor say when you rightclick these driver's .exe to Troubleshoot Compatibility?

What is your current BIOS version? Type System Information in Start Search box to check there. If not listed reboot into BIOS setup to look on info page. The latest version is 1202 which may be needed to overcome these crashes.

That was the original BIOS which shipped with the mobo in 2007. If I were you I would flash it to the latest BIOS 1202 (not beta) following the procedure given in ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Technical Documents M2N32-SLI Premium VISTA Edition Technical Documents :BUPDATER BIOS Upgrade Procedure.

However there are risks flashing the BIOS so if you have any questions I would seek Asus Tech Support or ask back here so we can provide more specialized help for flashing the BIOS.

I also asked you about whether you've installed the chipset and SATA controller in Compatibility Mode, since SATA will not install at all. The fact that I've suggested this twice and you have not replied tells me that you may lack the thoroughness required to flash your BIOS without risk to your mobo.

I would appreciate it if you or your colleagues could guide me as Bios updating if I get it wrong could would render my pc useless
