My computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

Question 1-I any ideas what causes the computer not to power on when it has sudden power loss?
Question 2-What can I do so that the next time I have a sudden power loss I don't have to take it apart to get it working again?

I like learning computer/electronics repair so be as detailed or technical as you can be to help me learn more about electronics.

Thanks

The power switches do go bad and can result in all kinds of strange behavior. You might try replacing the switch.

But before you do try removing the switch and starting/stopping the computer using just the wires to see if it is indeed the switch.
