I have an HP Pavillion elete. win 7/64. 3 times today I got the blue screen saying that win has toshut down due to an error. It lists several error codes, but the computer shuts down before I can copy them.
The first 2 times, the system restarted OK, but the 3rd time was bad.
I tried to restart using the power button, then tapping each ofthe above listed keys to try to get anywhere, but no results. On ESC, it would say Loading boot options, but nothing happened within a few minutes. I shut down each time with the power button, and nothing seemed to work. F10 said opening setup options, but again nothing happened in a few minutes. Each time I'd leave the screen on for several minutes, but it never got past there.
I put in a repair disc and started, but it didn't boot from that. I tapped F8 on one try, but it wouldn't open in safe mode.
Finally, after I left the screen set for a fairly long duration, it started again. One item on the blue shutdown screen said that I could try resetting the BIOS to skip casching and one other item, but I have no idea on how to do that.
I'm now waiting for the next shutdown and will try to take a picture of the blue screen so I can report the error codes.
One previous time when it shutdown, when it got started again, it ran a diagnostics check; everything pased OK, soI assume it's not a hardware problem. I've done a couple of restores going back on point at a time, but so far that hasn't helped; I'll continue to try earlier points.
Awhile back I got some info saying that the motherboard battery was weak. Is it possible that's what's causing this problem?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as it gets pretty scary when it shuts down and I can't get it started right away!
