Conexant AC-97 Audio HELP, PLEASE!

Hello everyone,

I hope everbody's doing well. Please, I do really need your help to fix a problem with my Sound Card ''Conexant AC-97 Audio'' I have recently insalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and it seems to be working fine, though this particular issue with the sound card drivers. I have tried a lot starting by the solutions suggested by users on this forum but never gotten to fix the problem.

Here are two photos I have taken from a screan scan which will show you exactly what's wrong, and I know that many people have the same issue ...

It looks like you need drivers for those device with yellow exclamation marks. Can you provide the PCI IDs for those? Hows how to get the info.

I last thing I tried and it's seems working fine is this method I found at another website and I want to share with the others who might have the same issue and thank you once again

Download the "Conexant AC97 Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)" from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-51288-1

installing it regularly didn't work but you can make a trick.

1. first, try to install it normally with the driver. it will probably fail but it will be extracted in C:\swsetup\SP35558 by default

2. open the .inf file and locate

%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308E103C

3. add this line to it
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,<x>

<x> can be found by going to the device manager, open the unrecognized audio device's property page, select "Details" tab, and select "Hardware Ids" from the Property combo. One of the listed strings should be <x>. it was the top one in my case.
In my case <x> was PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_3082103C&REV_03

so it eventually looked like:

%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308E103C
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_3082103C&REV_03

4. now install the driver manually through device manager. It installed as "Conexant AC-Link Audio" which i find weird since it first was listed as "Conexant Realtec AC-97".

It's not a very good way to edit the .inf file and put your device id into it. the drive was evidently made Conexant AC-Link Audio in mind, yes it works but doing this way might also work for many other "compatible drivers". Utimately, how your actual device and this driver will play out, will be evident down the track.

Thanks alot aem for the clarification, I appreciate it. So do you think there is a better idea for this issue, I mean instead of modifying the .inf file and all this process, is there a better way out to this. as far as my sound card is concerned, it seems working ok as you see on these pics ...

Perhaps no other ways if you have search to the end of the internet and still can't find a working driver. Not every new devices have drivers that are 100% immediately compatible with it. Hence you have what's it's called compatible drivers (near match), as apposed to actual drivers. There is also a "time" issue between vendors and manufacteres of new devices. Often with new hardware, vendors often don't wait for manufacturers to code up new drivers, and so they "packaged" existing drivers they think will work.

Just leave it for now and see how you go.
