SOLVED -Compaq Presario V2602TN Windows 7 RC 1 No Sound

I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice and there is still no sound coming out of my speakers. I went to the HP Site and downloaded the latest (Windows Vista) Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers for my laptop model. Even with the drivers loaded, there is still no sound on my laptop. There is sound when I put on my headphones and after I pull it out the speakers run for a second and then no sound again.

My Laptop model is Compaq Presario V2000 V2602TN

I've located the drivers for my laptop here:
Select software and drivers

I've installed the Conexant Audio Drivers but it didn't work. I tried to install the chipset driver but it wouldn't want to continue the installation because it doesn't recognize Windows 7.

UPDATE: I finally got it to work! :D

What I did was I uninstalled the driver I got from HP and forced a Windows Update. The update from Windows got the correct Conexant High Definition Audio for this laptop model.

Posting to say that the posted fix worked for me as well. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv8320ca, and I am using Windows 7 32 bit.

The Conexant drivers that I used were "Conexant High Definition Audio Driver 4.8.0.0" found by doing a search online.

Thanks for posting your solution!

Had the same problem with my HP DV5000. On other forums I read that the "old" Windows XP driver might work on Windows 7. So I did the following:

- I downloaded "double driver", a tool to export drivers
- Exported the Conexant HD Audio Driver from my Windows XP partition (I have dual boot XP/Windows7) with double driver. Enable the option: include "Double Driver"
- Removed the existing non-working driver from Windows 7
- Imported the XP driver with "double driver" into Windows 7
- The previous step failed (I don't know why), but after updating manually
(control panel - device manager - sound, audio and video controllers - Conexant HD Audio - tab driver - update driver) I now have sound!

XP Driver version: 3.21.0.0 XP Driver date: 19/4/2006

So the solution for this problem is: Use your old XP Drivers (strange but true)

when i installed win 7 and before when i installed sp1 on vista i too lost my sound. after calls to the tech guys and lots of hair pulling i discovered (by myself) a checkbox list to enable my speakers granted this was on a desktop and using realtek HD audio but it could be a similar issue ,worth checking .
on realtek the check box was located by clicking on the output jack that i was plugged into ,i appreciate you are on a laptop so wont have an output jack selected but anyone with this isssue doing searches may find it some use and it maybe something similar for your issue.
