conextant internal laptop soundcard problem

The problem occured last week while playing some moonbase alpha, my speakers basically cut out while playing however windows believes it is still outputting sound to them, if i plug a jack into either of the speaker or microphone jacks and remove it the problem is instantly fixed and sound continues as normal for up to around 10 minutes when it happens again.
I can fix it again for 10 minutes by switching from the playback tab to the recording tab in the sound properties menu, i have tried reinstalling drivers that came with my laptop and drivers from other sources, i have tried drivers that are older than mine, i have also tried using the default driver windows 7 assigns it "intel HD audio"
the device is shown as conexant smartaudio HD
I have tried my volumes, my balance and i have played about a little with the sound properties and with the smartaudio application.
I have also tried restoring to an earlier point before the problem happened and before i even installed moonbase, windows troubleshooter reports no problems.
Specs and dxdiag are below,
Many thanks,
Ben.

None of that diagnosiic data is needed. Just fill in the information for the "My System Specs".

First suggestion, go to the Device Manager and uninstall the sound device there and then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there is a corruption between Windows and the sound card this will fix it.

In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Sound Device, then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC.

Are you using Conexant drivers from the PC/Motherboard vendor? if not that is the next suggestion. Non-vendor drivers either do not work or do not work correctly in many cases. I know you have said you tried other drivers, but if they were not the Pegatron provided drivers that can be an issue.

There could also be other problems such as a hardware problem or a Windows OS problem (if its a Windows problem it will take a complete reinstall).

I was dreading a reinstall, i am using the drivers provided with the laptop, i did try some from other sources but ultimately i always reinstall the vendor supplied drivers after a negative outcome.

A reinstall is the last resort, if nothing else works. I don't like to do it either and only do reinstalls (I do part-time PC repair) at clients when absolutely needed.

There could be some program that is loaded at startup that is causing the problem. Look at what is loaded at startup and what is in the "notification area" (Used to be called the sys tray) in the lower right of the task bar.

This is one of those things that can be difficult to find, assuming its not a hardware problem.

Hey there, I just wanted to say that I seem to be having the same problem. I've taken to watching films on my laptop with my finger hovering over the mouse button in order to mute and unmute the sound as quickly as possible  This is just an impression I have, but it seems that the amount of time between when I restore the sound and when it cuts out again decreases in proportion to both increasing volume and increasing amount of time that audio has been playing.

Like bv2490, I have reinstalled the driver and restored to before a time when the problem occurred. Any further suggestions, aside from a reinstall?

Here is the strange thing about my problem, the user above me (sorry didn't note your name before my reply) have you come across this?

strange audio problem part1 - YouTube part 1
Strange audio problem part2 - YouTube part 2

**sorry about the music and some background noise, i recorded it with a camera as i wasn't sure that the audio would still be captured or not if i used a screen capture**

The moment i make any changes, even change tabs in the windows or smart audio sound panel the sound goes back to normal but like the user above the time in which the sound is normal is decreased with each temporary fix

I had to register to say I have this exact same problem. Through temporary fixes by either sleeping then waking the computer up, or more quickly just disabling the playback speakers then reenabling them, it works for 30 seconds to 5 minutes, but lessens with each fix it seems. The only permanent fix for me has been using my Turtle Beach headset, though I would think that any headphones would work.

I tried updating my drivers, I uninstalled the device and reinstalled it, and I even ended up formatting my computer, reinstalling Windows 7 and reinstalling all the factory drivers from the CDs they sent me originally with my laptop. My only conclusion is that its a hardware issue with the internal speakers themselves. Unfortunately, Im not willing to part with my laptop for 2-4 weeks while CyberPower fixes it, so I guess I'm just going to get used to the headphones unless someone has another possible solution?

Same issue as the OP. Just got done reinstalling the drivers from the driver disc. I even went looking for updated Conexant drivers but the ones I did find only 33% fixed the issue. Yes it would work, but at 5 second intervals it would cut in and out for approx. 1 second. And the built in microphone would cease to work. I am also posting here because this is the first time I have found someone with this SPECIFIC problem. And if anyone with this problem who is still watching figured out a fix on their own. Please, by all means, post it.

Same laptop MOBO as OP aswell.. Intel HM65 Chipset Mainboard

I have found 2 download sites that seem to have windows 7 Conexant Smart Audio Driver updates provided by GigaByte. The specific driver is 8.54.37.50 for XP,VISTA,WIN7,WIN8/64bits on 2012/05/30 by Conexant, provided by GigaByte.

Link 2:Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver Download for 2K,XP,2K3,VISTA,WIN7,WIN8/32bits

The only issue is you have to sign up with the sites to download them. They are for the MOBO we all share. I would test them, but I need my college computer to continue to work, and I can't risk BSODs. So, I am requesting someone who shares our problem to test these driviers. Remember, you have to have the Intel HM65 Chipset Mainboard to have our specific Conexant Hardware. Someone test one of these and if they work, report the results ASAP.

Thank you.

I managed to test the new drivers, and they are in fact Windows 8 drivers. They ARE compatable with Windows 7, however, they do NOT fix the issue. The issue occurs just as if one did not upgrade their drivers. For troubleshooting I would search for errors with the Sound Panel. I say this because if simply swapping between the Playback and Recording tabs on the Sound Panel temporarily fixes the issue every time you swap, then one has to assume that it is in fact linked to the Sound Panel. I hope someone well versed in the inner workings of Windows Sound looks into this, because I'm at a loss here. I will not repeat the issue, because it has been stated and demonstrated in previous posts.

In my spare time, I've taken the liberties of aquiring the Hardware IDs for the sound card, if it help's your tech support center with this.

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5069&SUBSYS_1B0A2092&REV_1003
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5069&SUBSYS_1B0A2092

As listed within the driver.

And I realize I am bringing this back to life, but can I really be blamed for wanting the be able to use the hardware that I personally paid for?
Also I am displeased with the lack of interest in this issue that has persisted for almost, if not more, than 8 months.

The problem is not the drives.
Simple test ---> Run ubuntu ---> Same problem.
