I know that WAP allows you to sort of extend the wireless range such that people can access the same network in a large area.

However, I also heard that it can be use as an added security to the existing network by separating it away from the main network. Is it true? If so is the main the more secured 1 or is the WAP the more secured one. If the distance between the main and WAP is less than 7 metre will there be any interference between the two, can an WAP still be created if the distance is Les than 7 metres?

It was probably meant that you can create a DMZ with the WAP, this way everyone connecting to the WAP would be in a DMZ and everyone connecting via Ethernet would be on the intranet?
