Hello Folks,

I have a Pocket Wifi Huawei E585 - It is a router which allows me to connect up to five devices to the Internet. I have two laptops and a PC. The Router Does not allow me to connect the computers together. I bought a Belkin G-Router. I want to Wirelessly connect the routers together for the following purpose:

I want the Pocket Mi-Fi to act as a modem only and distribute one single internet connection to the Belkin.

Then I want the Belkin Router to do the sharing between my computers and distribute the internet connection between the computers.

Thanks a Lot.

This may work for you, but you have to flash your router (if it's compatible) with DD-WRT.
Connect a wired network to the Verizon MiFi 2200

there are other sites out there so do a google search for this, mi-fi bridged to wireless router .

Solved - Thanks so much

Hello Zepher,

Of all the Belkin Routers available I had to buy one which is incompatible with DD-WRT. Your reply was most helpful. :D

Thanks again.

This may be possible without any reprogramming of the router.

Assuming this is a four port router - connect the four devices to the router ports, (3 pcs + Dongle), as long as the ip address range is the same on all devices, (you may need to manually set this, if possible), if you set the default gateway and DNS to point to the IP of the WiFi dongle, the other devices should use this route to access the net.

you can then use windows networking to connect the devices

Hi Barman58,

(Can I have a beer Please? :) - I like your username) Thanks for your post bud

I am considering what you replied, it does make sense, however, I have a little issue: the Dongle is USB and the Router has no USB connectivity. I searched for an adaptor and here in Aus it's very expensive, around $50 (I can get another router for that same price). If there was a way I could connect the router to the dongle (which has wifi as well) then I think what you are telling me may be done.

Thanks again - I'm kinda excited - this is my first forum participation and I find the sharing of knowledge extremely amazing - I hope I can help some people one day.

Regards

You have two routers (Belkin and Huwei) and both are capability of broadcasting your wifi networks. One of them will need to cease being a broadcasted and instead we a repeater or an access point.

What wireless networks have you got going at the moment?

Hi Aem,

I am still using direct wired connection to connect my two PCs and I have my wife's PC that I would like to add to the network when (If) it goes wireless. My Huawei allows simultaneous connection to the Internet but since it 'divides' the connections whenever one PC or other device is connected to it I have to refrain from switching on another PC if I want 'decent' internet speed.

The Belkin I have is F5D7234-4 v3 - I am very disappointed with the firmware and I cannot flash it - I knew I shouldn't have listened to that Apple guy. Anyway, The belkin is not detecting the Huawei when used as an Access Point. And I wanted the Belkin to do the sharing and to make all computers go through it to access the Internet. The Belkin Firmware will not even allow me to create a wireless network without internet connection.

If you can advise of some route to adopt let me know.

Thanks a lot.

laptop A _____ Laptop B (with Huawei) ------ Wife's PC

So A is connected to B and all is well with internet sharing. For this to work the Huawei is a modem which connects to it's dedicated ISP. But the Huawei is also a router.

If it is also a router you can you set up a wireless network off it and broadcast this wifi network. This will then means the other laptop can connect to the wifi and no need for no need for direct cabling.

If you can get Huawei to broadcast the wireless network, why not plug it into the wife's PC?

So basically hook up wht Huawei to the wife's desktop PC. Create the wireless network off that PC and have both laptops connect to the wifi wirelessly. No need for Belkin.

Hey Guys,

I'm stuck I cannot find any way to connect the Mifi to the router, any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Early on you stated that the mifi
Does not allow me to connect the computers together
I am familair with the mifi device and one of my clients has several of them. I have found them to work well, but they are sometimes tempermental!

Can you please describe in detail what you mean by
Does not allow me to connect the computers together
? Is it allowing you to share Internet at all? Are some of the PC's wired and some wireless... is that what you meant? Also it may be helpful if you describe the way you were hooking the mifi up. Lastly, have you tried contacting your mifi provider, as there may be a problem with it!

Connect wirelessly to Huawei E585 (Internet Only)

Hello folks,

Above is my current architecture. Internet is fine (the only annoyance is that any device connected to the Mifi (Even if not using the internet) divides the internet connection and makes it very slow. Say Speed on Laptop when it is the only device connected to the Mifi is arouns 1mbps, then my I connect 2nd laptop to Mifi - internet speed on laptops 1 & 2 are 500kbps each. Kindly note that the Mifi does not allow the two laptops to connect together. Here is what I am trying to do;

Laptop A - - Wireless- - - - Laptop B - - -Wireless- - - Wife's PC

Wirelessly connect to Belkin G Router and make network and sharing possible (Belkin does all distribution)

Belkin G Router connect to Mifi (as if Mifi was a PC) for internet purposes only

This will make that my internet speed will remain constant as only 1 device will be connected to the Mifi and I can have sharing between PCs and internet connection will not be divided when another device is hooked up to the Network.

Thanks for your advice and assistance.

You must plug in the mifi via the usb cable into one of the PC's... as aem asked earlier... which is it plugged into?

Also, there is no way to plug the mifi into the router and have it work in the way you want... even if your belkin has a usb port that is for external hard drive and or a printer.

The Huawei E585 is a 3G wifi modem, it is not connected to anything physically.

It needs to be plugged in to keep battery charged and for heavy usage... running on batt only isnt a good idea!

You also must configure the mifi dashboard via the usb connection, have you done that?

According to the instructions I found online you do need to plug into a PC and configure on first machine... did you follow the instructions that came with it?
