Solved connect to shared folder with media center

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to set up a network link from my media Center (LG DP1B).
It needs a Samba link to my windows 7 shared folder (all passwords are off, all acces is given to all users, including "everyone", all settings in the advanced settings for sharing). I created a shared folder

However when I'm trying to gain acces to the PC I get the message:
"user name and/or password are incorrect"
I tried everything (no username/password, my account username/no password, my account username/account password, account username/homegroup password) but I cannot get acces to the network.

Is there a setting in Windows 7 I missed somehow?
I'm using windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version.

with the 'everyone' group added to the ACL with full or 'modify' permissions, it shouldn't prompt for un/pw ever... But since you have set the everyone group, it could be a windows 'home' issue.

Both workgroups the same? ie. spelling and what not?

I found this on another forum, it's an AC-Ryan forum but the steps to take are for Windows.
I tried them (including the Regedit changes) and now I have a working connection

As you found out, with Windows Home you dont have the local security policy settings to play with so you need to make adjustments to the registry to turn down the lanman sever settings to allow Win 7 to work with certain older servers.

I reposted the required steps just to make it easier for anyone reading this.

1. Go to your Start Menu and press ‘Run’.
   • If you do not have Run in your start menu you can find the Run program in your Programs folder, then select Accessoires and select Run from that list.
2. Type in ‘regedit’ and press OK.
3. Search for the following location:
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
4. Double click on 'everyoneincludesanonymous' and change the value data to 1.
   
   
   
5. Double click on ‘NoLmHash’ and change the value data to 0.
   
   
   
6. Search for the following location:
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters\
7. Double click on ‘restrictnullsessaccess’ and change the value data to 0.
   
   
   
8. Close the register editor.
9. Restart your PC.
