I've read posts on this but I still can't get it to work. I did have my Windows 7 connected to my XP, but it didn't work with XP to 7 so I started fiddling with my XP and now I can't access my XP through 7.
I don't know if this affects anything but my XP is connected through an ethernet cord because the wireless was unreliable, but my Win 7 is wireless.
Please describe what I should do with BOTH computers, and screenshots would be helpful.
When I pull up network places on my XP, all I get is a broken link that says 'My Web Sites on MSN', but when I was looking for my 7 from XP, I found it under all MSN network places but it was under a browse box so when I closed out from the browse box, I didn't find it.

First thing to check is if you are using "homegroup". Home group is meant for win 7 machines only and is problematic when used on mixed networks.

You can create a new network connection using "workgroup" to see if this fixes the problem.

With Home Premium you will never be able to remote into 7 from XP. Only outgoing connections, I'm afraid.

System Restore on the XP box to restore functionality?

Just to clarify, You can't remote desktop into a windows 7 Home Premium PC but you can connect to shared files and folders on that PC.

What I did was make both PC's part of the same workgroup. Turned off Homegroup on my windows 7 PC, optional I would say but I don't use it so I turned it off. On my windows 7 PC in the Network and sharing center I went to Choose homegroup and sharing options > Change advanced sharing options. Under "Home or Work" I checked the following:
Turn on network discovery, turn on file and print sharing, Turn off public folder sharing, Use 128-bit encryption, and Turn on password protected sharing.

I have at least one folder on each PC shared and password protected. They all show up in Network on 7 and My network neighborhood on XP.
