Hi guys, I've been getting some pretty annoying BSODs screens the past few days. It usually happens when I'm playing games on my comp but there was one case where it happened when I was browsing the net. It didn't happen before when I played my games but now it's popping up almost every session.

Hi CC123.

First of all, scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.

If the tests are clean, very good, take some hardware tests next.

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Let us know the results.

Prime 95 and the virus scans turned out good. But 10 seconds into memtest gave me a red line and my computer bsod after 10 mins of graphics card testing. The max temp was 103 and was averaging at 100-101.

Bad, and you have to do a lot of stuff there. And RAM is the first thing to concentrate on. Because a failing RAM can cause any of the issues (but not overheating).

Now follow the "Part 3: If You Have Errors:" of How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+

Errors/red lines means one or more RAM is faulty. But the fault may occur due to a faulty DIMM slot, too, which is a motherboard component. Using memtest86+, you can discriminate between a faulty RAM and a faulty motherboard.

How? Say you have two RAM sticks and two DIMM slots. You obtained errors at the test with all RAM sticks installed. Now, remove all the sticks but one. Test it in all the available slots, one by one. Continue the same procedure for all the available sticks.
How to make the inference that is it a RAM issue or it is a motherboard issue? Suppose you have got the result like that:

test|Slot1|Slot2
RAM1| Error | Error
RAM2|Good|Good
It is a RAM, a bad RAM.

But if you have got a result like that:

test|Slot1|Slot2
RAM1| Error |Good
RAM2| Error |Good
It is a motherboard issue. The particular slot is bad.

When the source is determined, replace it, and concentrate on the next part.

Update the BIOS to the latest: Version 1501 dated 2012.10.12 from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M4A88TD-M/USB3

Next, dismantle the computer. Clean the inside up. Clean up all the air vents and fan grills so that it can blow the hot air out efficiently. While re-seating things, apply new thermal paste to the CPU.

When all the above are done, take another furmark test and let us know the results .... whether is is still crashing or not.

So I was going to test my mem this weekend but before I restarted my comp to boot into the usb, my comp crashed again. This time with no bsod, it just crashed and restarted on the mobo screen. Now it is now stuck on the mobo screen. It won't let me go into bios or the boot screen.

Edit- So it managed to boot up again after an hour. Will get back after I do the tests.
