Constant (corrupt recycle bin(s))!

Hi Guys,

After installing both the RC and RTM versions of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 I have experiened a recycle bin error message stating it;s corrupt.

Upon further investigation I can see other have experienced a similar problem and I have used the following batch code to delete the corrupted Recycle bin.
rd /s /q E:\$Recycle.bin (I have 6 different lines to reflect each of my drive letters).

The bat file does resolve the error for a short time but it always comes back after a reboot. I was just wondering if there is a permanent fix for this to prevent me having to click on 6 error message when trying to delete a file.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Have you tried creating a new user account to see if it also has recycle bin problems?

Try system file checker (sfc /scannow) to repair system files

Hello Tylor,

You might check to make sure that you are deleting the $RECYCLE.BIN folder on all hards to see if that may help.

If not, then create a new administrator account, as kegobeer posted above, to see if works properly in it.

Hi guys thanks for the replies..

I can confirm that the bat script does indeed delete the recylce bin's across the drives. The unfortunate thing it that the problem comes back pretty quickly.

I could try the new admin account, I would just be nervous about having to copy all of my user settings and configuration over to the new account.

Have any of you guys experienced the same issue?

The new account is just for testing.

Hi guys,

I created another Admin account and at a first glance the corrupt recycle bin message doesn not seem to appear.

Is there a way in which I can migrate my old account details seamlessly without causing any issues with (programs,settings,mce extenders) etc?

I obviously don't want to have to reinstall all of the programs again but I am guessing it's also not as simple as copying over the programdata/appdata folders and making some registry changes.

Suggestions are very welcome

Tylor,

Yes. You can copy the contents of your old user account's C:\User\(user-name) user folders into the corresponding new account's C:\User\(user-name) user folders. If everything checks out ok, then you can delete the old user account from within the new account.

What about all of the programs that are installed? will these still be usable (appreciate that they are installed on the same C: just thought registry entries may point to a different location)

Yep, programs installed will always remain installed usable. It's just their shortcuts created in the user account that need to be copied over to the other one. They will be included though when copying the files from the user folders to the new account's user folders.

Spoke too soon I'm afraid, the new admin account is suffering from the corrupt recycle bins

Not sure what left to try as it's becoming more and more frequent, I have 7 error messages everytime I want to delete a file!

Any more ideas guys?

Have you installed any drivers for your motherboard, video card, etc? If you have not, have you checked for Windows 7 x64 drivers? If they aren't available, have you tried using the Vista x64 drivers?

Also - enter your computer information the the systems specs portion of your profile.

Was this installation a clean (format) or upgrade installation? If upgrade, you might consider backing up and doing a clean install instead. Sometimes a upgrade install may not always go to plan.

Yeah, I did an upgrade first off but after a few qwerks I decided to do a clean install so not sure why I am experiencing this error!

Are you completely wiping your drive before installing?? You shouldn't be having this corruption with a clean install...

I can't remember off the top of my head whether it was a format but surely a clean install is exactly that, not upgrading or transferring files/settings - brand new fresh build?

No, its not the same. While not a common occurrence, it is possible to have garbage left behind if you dont do a real format before installing your OS. If it is possible, do a format, then re-install and let us know how it comes out...

During the install process, select advanced install. You can select the Windows 7 partition and format it, then continue with the install.

Without formating and not doing a upgrade install, it would be a custom install instead.
