Well Ethel this just about rules out the hard drive in it's physical properties at least.

Now if you Google "UAC File Virtualization event 2007" there are stack of hits but most are account based which to me doesn't make sense your account shouldn't be causing this grief.

I am beginning to think that a clean install may be the answer but lets just chase down some other thoughts first.
Look sorry for the double post but my mobile broadband has been dropping in and out all day and I am just about to go offline for a while soon so don't think I have gone anywhere ok?

Just a thought Ethel before I go offline try doing some of the tweaks in this tutorial - I use this on all my machines - it does mean you have to make do without transparency but I think it is a pointless thing anyway

Hello again, I know the feeling of mobile drop outs. I had no internet access for 4 months. I completely
lost the signal from the only Telstra tower I was able to get it from, but Telstra payed me back half the
cost of the yagi antenna I had to buy which only worked for one year. I now have the NBN Skymuster
satellite dish, and it is working really well for me. Anyway back to crap.
UAC File Virtualization error has gone, hopefully for good.I went to task manager, clicked processes,
show processes from all users, view, select columns, and checked the box for UAC virtualization, so
hopefully I can forget that one now. I am still looking around about the known folder errors. Some sites
suggest creating a new user account, but I have not attempted this yet in case I make a huge mistake.

Hello Ethel yes am thinking of NBN myself now but back to the problem look if you want to try different accounts see this User Account - Create if you get into strife post in that tutorial Brink can sort anything out but I would make sure that I kept myself as the only user with Admin account rights

Ok Ethel and it didn't hit me until this morning your issue actually happens on this my main desktop - how I missed this is well probably old age.

Now I also have that lag between power on the Asus splash and the the Windows starting up.

Now it might be coincidence but the machine had been running very erratically for some time and the worst problem was the BIOS losing it's settings for example the boot order amongst other little annoying things. I had a thread going right up to just recently and was reseating cards and sticks and heave knows what and then Indianatone suggested renewing the CMOS BIOS battery.
Now this seemed a little too simple for me at the time but I did it and found the battery had run down to 1.02v when it should be at least 3v or very close. Flipped the new battery in and bongo the BIOS settled down and the machine although it still has the lag issue is working as good as it used to - it has a i5K CPU and 2400Mhz RAM and I had been overclocing the CPU and RAM and so irt was something as simple as that battery.
The battery was about four years old if my memory is correct and although one should expect a life of around 5- 6 years (or I have sen them much olde with a decent charge) for the CMOS battery maybe it was a poorly made one or had been in the board for some time before I bought it.

If you ant to try that approach it is quite simple to as long as you remember it will return the BIOS settings to default. The battery is a CR 30232 and costs around $3 but if you do want to try that please make sure you get a really well known brand of battery and not some el cheapo one from those cheap dollar shops - Eveready or Duracell or Energizer (which might EverReady) be would be good bets and get one that states it is long life one - a lithium based one would be the very best.

Hello again, Thank you for coming back to me again. My computer is a monitor and a tower. I do not own
a laptop. Something I noticed about my user account. Under user account's it says admininistrator, but
if I look in task manager, view, columns, there are various things that say not allowed. I thought an
admininstrator had full use on the files.

bios battery

Hello ICIT2OL, Sorry about my last post. I did not know this tower even had a battery in the bios.
I just noticed in the Asus A85XM-A guide, I feel like an idiot, but do not have a clue how to change this
battery. It is about 3 years old.

Sorry but did I say your machine was a laptop ? if I did I don't know what OI was thinking about.

Changing the battery is easy - you just unplug the mains power supply and hold down the power on button for about a minute - make sure you touch the case to ground any static electricity on you - expose the board by lying the case on it's side and remove the side panel almost always the left hand side as you view the machine from the front - have yet to see one that isn't - there should be screws at the back on the side you just remove them and the side panel will come away/ slide backwards off it's mountings and you may have to take out the GPU but I think you are using the onboard (the chip) graphics.
Now you will see a silver coin sized battery on the board I will send a pic and all you need to do is prise the side tag away and the battery should flip up and you remove it. Leave the machine for about 5 minutes and then just push in the new battery it feels like it is clicking into place MAKING SURE THE POSITIVE SIDE IS UPPERMOST that side is marked with a small plus mark . But like I said you will have to set the BIOS again - for ease set it to default settings until we can work out what you can set

Hello again, You did not say my computer was a laptop, that was just me not knowing a desktop computer
also had a battery. I shall be going out in the next few days, and have written down what you have said
to get, and see how I go. In this Asus guide it says to unscrew from the back of the tower, it does show
little pins at the back, so I think I will be okay, "famous last words". I will get back to you as soon as it

Yep Ethel all machines have the BIOS battery so the firmware holds the settings after power off

See pic for the fixing screws - very typical of what you will find - most are knurled knobs (little grips on them)

I don't understand how a software problem (user profile) is going to be solved by changing the motherboard battery? Is there any evidence to show that the motherboard battery is faulty and is the cause of the problem?

Would it not be better to act on the evidence (user profile issues) and stick with examining the user account/s?

Colin I suggsted it because I had similar issues (amongst others) with my main dsktop and it turned out to be changing the BIOS battery that cured a lot of them - that the only reason why the subject came up.

Hello everyone, Actually there is no problem with the battery in the bios. I had the technician who originally
built this computer take a look, and he said it is doing what it is supposed to do. The known folder
errors are on every startup, and I have not played with this, because I do not want to make the situation
worse.

Hello ICIT2OL, I have decided to ignore these errors. I have looked everywhere on the internet, and this
is a common problem that has been going on for a long time, windows 7, windows 8, and windows 10 users
also have it. The system seems to be running fine. If it decides to crap itself I will just reinstall windows
if I have to. I put this off because of downloading and installing all the windows updates again, and hiding
windows 10 upgrade.

Ok Ethel if you need help with a reinstall and do not have any installation media at least you can download and ISO now and make your own bootable DVD or USB stick. You only really need the activation code to do the install - on the original media packaging sticker if you didn't stick it on the case that is.
Anyway you can find the original code using this first Product Key Number for Windows 7 - Find and See

Oh nad back up your data of course

Anyway post back if you run into problems and we can run through it with you.

Hello ICIT2LOL, Thank you for helping me. I have my windows dvd, if I need to reinstall, and the sticker
with the product key is still on the tower. I have reinstalled once before, so if it comes to that I will be

Yep Ethel just don't forget the data backup and any program downloads you have in Downloads - I find it easy to put them on a USB stick and install them from it instead of waiting for those tedious downloads via the net.
