Hi guys, my friends has a hp g60 laptop and when it starts up it sends out beeps that sound like an alarm. It happens when his computer shows "starting windows". The computer wont load and alarms wont stop unless you press enter. As soon as his login screen pops up it tries to log in automaticly and fails ( he has a password). I have no clue why it beeps or why you have to press enter for windows to move on from the start up page.

First blush guess would suggest that the laptop believes a key is stuck. Incessant beeping and the fact the password fails points as a possibility.

I stopped after 100. Should I keep marking down until it stops? Also is that why windows doesnt move on from the loading page unless i press enter? Is it waiting to move on after all the beeps are done?

Its a laptop..... I'd have to order one, or would a usb keyboard override the onboard one?

USB won't override the keyboard on the laptop. What you should do first, contact the Manufacturer's support line, see if they can talk you through on some diagnostics.

Normally, I would have said post beeps, but the fact that you got to windows and having problems logging in, it suggests the keyboard or some input is insistent on buffering input like mad.

And normally, it should say keyboard failure on start up, the fact it isn't, suggests something may be stuck, but may not be the normal keyboard input method.

Well, try this:

Turn off the laptop.

Press firmly, not stab, but press firmly on each key (Minus the power key). Each key should be working as normal ... The keys I doubt are the problem will be either the Shift keys, the Alt Key, the Ctrl Key as they are expected to be pressed down at times and hardly buffer.

Keys that might not normally show up when entering passwords would be the F-Keys, Insert, Home, Arrow keys, maybe the Windows Key... Although Windows Key normally uses the Ctrl-Esc sequence, which should cause it to make the login screen flicker if there was an Esc key tapping... So I would try tapping those keys to make sure they don't seem extremely loose or not come back up.

Also - Inquire with the user whether or not someone drank around the computer, particularly anything with sugar in it. Just cause they wiped it up, doesn't mean it didn't get into the keyboard area and caused some stickiness there or a misleading signal.

Lastly - Don't care if you get a non-native english speaker... Talk with HP... Some of their techs should be able to step you through something or at least see about getting replacement keyboard sent to you with a tech to replace it. Or at least, determine what else may be doing it, but more than likely, it suggests a stuck key on the keyboard or something is spamming the hell out of the input buffer on the laptop. If it is under warranty, it can be replaced, but it has to be through the manufacturer.
