Control panel view style?

Yeah but "All Control Panel Items" is basically the same thing. Even though it's locked, I'm sure there must be a way to change it somehow, they are just icons after all. I think I'll just manually change all the registry keys that are tiles to medium icons and see what happens.

I would recommend creating a restore point first to be safe in case you needed to do a System Restore.

A workaround is to create shortcuts (right clck) of all of the Control Panel items that you use often and place them in a new folder. You can then set the folder views for that new folder however you like and this have the same function as the normal Control Panel.

I don't see how it is much different than just choosing to show large/small icons instead of category view. Only difference I see is the text is on the right instead of word wrapped underneath:

It isn't about visual difference, it's about practicality. It's ridiculous that it is listed left to right when the text is to the right of the icon, if it was listed top to bottom, I wouldn't have so much of a problem with it. Scanning that list takes far longer for me to look for what I want than if the text was below the icon, or if it was listed top to bottom. Just look at how many times you have to move your eyes from left to right to go from the start to the end of the list. If the text was to the bottom of the icon, you could fit many more items in one line.

Oh yeah, and before I get any "just search for it" replies, no thanks, I'm not retarded

Jambananas,

Unfortunately that is not an option in the Windows 7 Control Panel. You might give the workaround I mentioned above a try to see if it may work for you. As shortcuts in a folder, you would be able to set it exactly the way you are wanting instead. :)

Yeah, I realise that it isn't an option which is why I'm still leaving this out there in case someone with some insight might be able to help. I already made a reply to whoever suggested I do that first earlier in the thread: it means I have to keep updating the list. It will also become rather pointless as it just becomes another folder somewhere on my drive rather than a system folder where everything you do seems to point to that folder. Making shortcuts to the folder everywhere just makes everything far more complicated than it has to be (and please don't tell me to pin it to the taskbar either). I'm sure this issue will be fixed in the very near future anyway and I don't plan on replacing my current OS with 7 any time soon, so I doubt there was any need for this thread in the first place. Thanks for trying to help though.
