I just got the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Cooler today, easily installed and really good. Well better than stock cooler.

The 1 fan which is mounted is intake.

If i were to install another fan to make it dual fan, would both be intake or would one be exhaust and intake etc. As in going with the push pull flow?????

I have the 212+ as well. You'd want one push and 1 pull. Also, make sure the 2nd fan moves the same amount of air as the 1st, or you'll create a bottleneck of sorts. But with 2 fans that have equal airflow, you will notice a drop in temps. But there will be more noise, unless you change both fans to a quiet fan like Noctua's. A Guy

I have the same heatsink on my set up push or pull or both blowing on the fins doesn't really make a big impact i have both blowing on the fins as to push and pull both methods work equally and you will be very satisfied with performance

but keep in mind generally the heatsink fan blows on the cpu i would do it the same way

I use both fans but you dont always have too but two is always better then one

I have push/ pull on my Scythe Mugen. Running 24*C idle at the moment.

Push is sitting over the RAM.
Pull is facing straight into the rear case fan blowing heat out of the case.

When putting 2 fans on a heatsink, you should almost always make it a push/pull configuration. If you put both fans on the same side of the heatsink, it might cause problems. Also, do you have the new version of the 212+ that comes with the sliding fan clips? Those make it REALLY easy to install fans.

Remember the direction of the air flow should always be from the front to the rear case fan of if allowed from the bottom to a top exhaust fan. Also the Noctura's may on paper not spin as fast but believe me they will push and pull air like crazy through those fins (order the correct model) and are drop dead quite wide open.

Some fans will be quieter because they push less air, or spin more slowly. But the Noctua's are quieter because of the fin design and the bearings. They are not cheap though. Look at this model, comes with 2 adapters you can use to slow the fan down to make them even quieter, but with lower airflow. But at full speed they are less than 20db. I can almost guarantee you, your GPU fan is louder than that, so you won't even hear them. They move over 54cfm at full speed. These use the SSO (self-stabilising oil-pressure bearing) bearings, quietest of all.

But also look at these Scythe fans, $10 bucks cheaper, and they move 49 cfm at just over 20db at 1200 rpm. Again, just about dead silent as ambient noise, your GPU, PSU and case fans will be noisier. These are also a superior Fluid Dynamic Bearing design.

i have both of mine facing the heat sink i did a cpuhw check im at 16c Im not using push and pull cause i have other fans around my case to push air and pull through out the case

Interesting and if the air can flow away easily from the fins practical. No such luck with a water radiator but air cooling fins this could be an interesting experiment. Have you tested temps both ways on a similar ambient day?

My Temps are ussually the same on any given day during the summer it was 22c most of the time my room is very cool Im downstairs and the heat really doesnt affect the temps in the winter it gets extra cold and it doesn't get any hotter that im living 15 mins away from the ocean

Im sure if i was in other remote location im sure it would be much higher based on my system is on the floor with a wood board under it with the back of the unit facing a ice cold window

But i never had the guts to try push and pull with my cpu I stuck to being old fashioned or traditional facing the fan downward but in this case facing them to each other on the fins

The fans should never be facing each other unless your heatsink is designed for that, which the Hyper 212+ isn't. If you have 2 fans, you should ALWAYS have them in a push/pull configuration on this heatsink. If ">" represents the direction the fan is facing, and "H" represents the heatsink, it should look like this:

You should NEVER have fans pushing towards each other, because it will create static air pockets between the fins. This could lead to higher temperatures or even overheating.

I have to agree that generally, the setup should be push/pull with the airflow facing the rear or top exhaust fans. If unequal fans are used, the fan that moves the most air should be the pull fan, otherwise the air will backup in the cooler. In real world testing, at load, the push/pull should be the lower temps.

That said, for the discussion here, if you aren't overclocking, you will get very little benefit from the 2nd fan as opposed to the added noise. Possible 2 or 3 degrees difference. My temps are lowest core approx. 27c at idle, and highest core 52c after 6 hours of OCCT. With the effective clock at 100% CPU of 3.21GHz.

This is on par to other tests I've seen. All which led me to stick with the one fan that came with the cooler.

Yep! Unless you are overclocking (which I am) you won't see a benefit from adding a second fan.

Lets just say there is no set line on how it should be set up unless specified

aparently i wasn't in class the day they said it had to be like this and only like this just saying proof is in my pudding and im not going to change it

and ps I am oc'ed too with no fan noise only the gpu makes the noise

No one is saying it must be only one way Just telling the OP what is generally recommended and what is generally accepted as the correct method. Since the difference in using 1 or 2 fans can be very slight, surely the different in using push/pull or your setup could expect to be as well. Overall airflow and case cooling will of course come into play as well. A Guy

Air flow is a funny thing if the air has a place to flow through the fins and exhaust this will work, larger coolers the better but I'm curious as to how the same set up would do push/pull?
