Cooler

Some good points being made.

For me I went from a Thermaltake Frio Air cooler to an Antec 920 Closed loop. I don't think the temps are massively different between the 2 as the Frio was very good and it's usually pretty cool round my neck of the woods.
But for looks alone there is no comparison, it just makes the whole inside of the case look so much nicer and tidier.

The choice of closed loop water coolers is big now and prices have dropped so much that in a lot of cases they are as cheap if not cheaper top line air coolers.

Just thinking out loud any way.

Paul.

If it helps any with regards to the 212 EVO, I am currently using the same cooler here. With my CPU overclocked to this,

http://www.sevenforums.com/overcloc...rums-overclock-leader-boards.html#post2453445

it tops out at around 62-64°C, and then falls back to around 57-58°C once the fan gets up to speed when running Prime95.

If nothing else if you get it it should be but dead silent when at idle, and under load if not overclocking still be almost silent (likely hear it, but it isn't really noticeable)

Lol, something like that. We have only been married for 5 1/2 years. I built some rigs over the years but gave them to my kids after my divorce a few years back. I was out of the game for a while but got back in it. I went to fry's for my last build.. she did not realize I was going to build it myself. When I bought it and brought it home she was amazed. She watched me build it and was really surprised. She said I always wondered what you did at work (I have told her, she just didn't get it) so it was an experience for her too.

She calls me nerd because she is 10 years younger than I am. When she grows up, she will understand!!

So I made it to Fry's today. They were out of the evo's and 212 but the did have a N520. I got it and like it. If I change my mind I will transfer it to another rig and get an evo.

I do like it, can't really tell how much more quiet it is as I'm using a loner psu that sounds like a jet. It is hot today, hit 98 and it seems to be running 5 C lower than the stock, ran a pass of IBT and it got up to 70 but ran fine.

Thank you again for all the advice!

I will move to a K chip in the future, and want this mainly because I like it. The intel fan works, but I think this looks much better. When I do upgrade, I will probably get the I53570k, and do a modest OC to around 4.2. Thanks for the input guys and gals

I have this in my rig and i love it :) right now it at 10C idle. and no more than 36C at full load . I have a slight OC from 3.8 to 4.0Ghz and fan is turned to about half speed so it isn't loud.

Speedfan is reporting 24C at idle. I will have to do a prime95 or something to see what full load gets me.
Edit: it is huge though... barely fit in the case....

lol another edit: not sure what high temp is in benchmark, but I game with it and it does well....

10°C is 50°F. So unless you have the A.C. vent blowing directly at your V8 through a hose and your A.C. is pumping out air that's at about 40-45°F, this core temp is impossible.

Those are still great temps Thorsen, I can only get them in the winter. I have my cpu in a room without AC vents, so while I keep the house about 79F, it is a little warmer in the computer room. I wanted to relocate to one of the spare bedrooms, but my wife would not go for that, as we keep them for guest and when my kids visit. 79 may seem warm to a lot of people, but it's 100 outside during the day, and 75-80 at night this time of year.

That's why I asked this question in post #30

Thorsen/ What is your ambient temps. Your cpu is at 50F/10C

If you are getting false reading it could cause a problem.

With a Intel cpu I use Real Temp and HWMonitor. In my case compared to bios both both those programs will read about 15 deg C higher at idle.

Not sure what the ambient temp would be as it is close to an AC vent. AC pumps out pretty cold, but the V8 is huge and pulls that heat off pretty quickly. not sure guys...

For 50°F to be true though, the air going through the heatsink would need to be 40-45°F.

Unless the AC is blowing directly into the case via ductwork, I doubt it is making much of a difference. Get RealTemp and let us know what it says.

Cooler update

So it's still a balmy 100 F outside, around 80 F in my computer room. My system and cpu temps are staying lower. At first it was a little higher so I reseated the cooler to make sure I was good. It seems to have settled in and is running cooler, both system and cpu.
