Am I allowed to make a backup copy of the above so that I can keep the original safe and not get it scratcged or damaged?

I've been trying to do this with Acronis Burning Studio but it fails to write. I wondered if there was copy protection?

Yes, you are allowed to make archival backups of your installation media ... as far as I know there is no copy protection..

Tews is right (of course)

Use ImgBurn to make an ISO and then burn it.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Thank you Tews and sup3rsprt. I copied the disk to my hard drive and then burnt it with Ashampoo, so I got there.
I think maybe I need a different DVD-R dye.

You're welcome.

Different dye? Why?

I hope you copied the disk as an image (or 1:1 copy) because otherwise it won't be bootable.

if ImgBurn is better then give yourself a medal

:handing over medal to Lightning UK!:

I'm not saying Nero wouldn't work. but I thought I already recommended the best tool for the job.

In this case Ashampoo and Nero is like taking bulldozers to an ant hill.

The OP is not using Nero. He is using Ashampoo, which is not what I recommended. No wonder it doesn't work.

Most people mess up when trying to make a bootable disc with Nero, so I recommended ImgBurn first. I was not telling anyone to ditch Nero if you already have it installed.

I gave up on Ashampoo a lo9ng while ago, and IMGBURN is a bit "round the houses to get next door"

ImgBurn is one of the easiest and fastest programs for this purpose. I would probably have everything finished before Nero even finished downloading and installing.

And I'd save a couple of hundred megs of hard disk space to boot.

But Imgburn has to create an ISO before you can burn it.
With Nero load disk into Rom unit, blank into burner, Click Smartstart-Rip and Burn-Copy disc- Copy, sit back.
Ejects when finished, 5mins to do a Windows7 copy.
Thats at 6x,at 12x 2min30 secs

Imgburn is totally FREE.
A full legit copy of NERO is $$...... and gets more bloated and complex with each version. (I am not saying this is bad, just that nero used to be fairly simple. Now when you open NERO you generally have to navigate through multiple parts of the program)
Just an observation..in passing.

..and did I mention....Imgburn is FREE???:D:D

(I also agree with UltraIso rocking!!!-- especially for backing up data/pictures/etc. Open UltraISO, Drag your "stuff" into it, create an "iso". THEN... burn that ISO with ImgBurn. VERY SIMPLE)
(of course, Win7 can burn that iso easily also. no muss, no fuss)
