Core i7 EIST Function....

Currently I have my core i7 overclocked to 3.2ghz with EIST on....

As you can see in the screenshot cpu-z is reporting a 1.9ghz idle (hence the EIST)



My main question is, does EIST slow down the computer performance wise in any way?

Hello Peck,

No, not at all. EIST will automatically kick in more processor horsepower when the system requires it. When the system doesn't require it, EIST can help save you electricity and keep the CPU cooler since it is using less power.

EIST is normally not something used in conjunction with an overclock. The reason is the throttling of CPU speed normally lowers the vcore or multiplier and unless your OC is only moderate, throttling the CPU back up will cause instability. That's why we who OC will normally turn EIST off. In your case, that IS a very modest OC, so EIST is not likely to cause problems.

Turn's out that after I turned EIST on my computer was quite unstable and kept restarting!

So, I have turned all power saving features off in the bios and preso... im back to normal...




I would recommend to any 1 even with no over clock to shut this feature off, do to stability issues...

I OC a bit but still have EIST on because I never bothered to turn it off. Havn't experienced any system problems.

yes, well your on a core2duo witch maxes out on about 65 Watts, im on a corei7 which maxes out on 150 Watts, has many more multipliers and 8 theoretical cores to handle..
