I have seen threads on unparking to gain performance. Patrick mentioned he did it somewhere here. I was wondering does anyone else do it? Does it increase performance in games?

Uhh that only works if you are running a system with locked cores

Only reason they were locked in the first place because they didn't run well like the others

Some park cores to get better performance out of single thread or even 2 cpu threads anyways it's more of a energy saving feature then anything for people trying to save extra cents on a dollar

Unless you are trying to save on electric bill you shouldn't have core parking especially on high performance set ups that need all the juice you can give

Does it help games...no. If u have a 4 core with HT it just parks the virtual cores. The os only parks half the cores your CPU has which means that 2 cores are almost always active. Games only use 2 cores. Now bf4 and 3. The more cores the better. So iumparking all of them is better. I got more fps and smoother game play.

U can Google core parking and download the program. I set up all cores unparked on my high performance power plan.

My whole point if you are running a pure power plan there is no core parking so why do you need something to unpark what isn't ?

The only way i can understand this is if when gaming the cpu shuts down the cores which if there not used then so be it but it shouldn't do that unless a power plan restricts it

Enable or disable core parking?

Hi. Disabling core parking might improve performance for some (but not all) users. I see many discussions about registry tweaks and third party utilities that claim to selectively enable/ disable core parking. I've tried a few methods and my opinion on the issue is:

Don't mess about with the registry tweaks. There's no need.

Here's a decent guide on how to enable or disable core parking without messing things up:

It's always best to make a system image backup before going ahead.

My personal preference is to use Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more! to enable or disable core parking for any power plan.

Process Lasso isn't suitable for users who don't understand the issues around process management!

no power plan in seven adjusts core parking. even in high performance, 4 cores are still always parked if u have a 3770k until they get used.

the first pic is with core parking enabled. 4 cores are parked (HT ones) and 4 unparked (Physical Cores)
