CPU Core parking/performance concerns

Strangely, I don't have the option in that screenshot. All my Processor Power Management tab lists is "System Cooling Policy". I have no option to see other available options.

I have a setting for the C6 power state in BIOS. I'm going to fiddle with that and see what comes of it.

I found some advice from Microsoft and it states:

If UAC is disabled, the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" option will not be available.

I don't know if this applies in your case but you could check anyway.

I suppose that if UAC is disabled you could just enable it on a temporary basis to get access to the settings.

If uac is disabled you would get access to all settings immediately. Even when I elevate uac to show all options I still do not have that option.

but what he was talking about AMD overdrive has the same effect
Anyway Overclocking 8350's and 20's are very easy i have clocked some of those chips at 4.8 on daily usage with a Antec620 khuler

Well, after some diddling around, I realized that there were two hotfixes and I hadn't applied the first one. I applied the first one, and then the second, and presto! Core unparking! My rig runs a tiny bit hotter at idle now, but it's only a degree or so.

I haven't run anything taxing on the rig to see if it's a little better performance-wise, but I suspect that I'll never notice the difference, but looking at my core graphs, it's using all 8 cores at times. It never did that before, except when I was running Prime95.

And I still have no power state management in my power plan...

Yes I know you have. I don't want to clock mine as high as you but just got the 8320 to 4ghz in the bios on the Sabertooth with no trouble whatsoever. I am using a Hyper 212 with push pull fans in both of them.

Well here's a thought - it might be completely wrong though! I see that you have an ASUS machine. My ASUS machine came pre-installed with a lot of ASUS extras, one of these was ASUS Power Management Utility. I removed all of the extra stuff by downloading a windows 7 ISO and doing a clean install so I can't check if the ASUS Power Management Utility over-rides the default windows power management options but I suspect that it might!

Nah. I never installed any of ASUS's bloatware. I have a totally clean install as per the tutorial here. The one gregrocker always links to.
