Corrupt file, windows tells me to run chkdsk utility.

I recently installed a new 5400rpm WD hard drive (640GB) in my laptop, but now every so often when i download a file i get this message

All my downloads go into that folder in the root of my E partition, and windows tells me its corrupt. Does this mean my new hard drive is damaged?

Now im not too familiar with running chkdsk, can any of you provide me with pointers on how to do it. Is there anything else i should try to fix this?

Hi there, it could be a corrupt installation or bad hard drive.

I would recommend you do a chkdsk on your new HDD.

well i ran the chkdsk for both partitions and it reports no problems..

So are you still facing the same issue? I would suggest you to do a clean install of win7.

well actually i havent seen the issue since. Im going to have to perform some downloads or move some files into that folder to see if it happens again.

But incase the issue still persists, would it be ok just to format and restore my system from the image file i created rather than clean install?

The image restore will work if you did not have the issue at the time when you created the image. Hence I think a clean install is much better.

well its been a day and i havent seen the issue so i think it's sorted
