Corsair vengeance heat syncs really necessary?

After aquiring a cooler master hyper 212 plus, I found that even it was too big to fit along with corsair vengeance high profile ram. This leads me to have to mount it so that the fan, which is trying to suck in air is facing the exhaust fan at the back rather than the intake fans at the front. If I removed the heatsync of 1 ram dimm there should be room to have it facing the intake fans, much more ideal, but will this a) void the warrantee and b) be bad for the ram (cause it to overheat). I know the heatsyncs on vengeance ram are rather excessive if you aren't overclock ing, but I just wanted to check. Also, I have 4 dimms, so I can't move them over or anything, incase someone was going to suggest that. I could just remove 2, the pair with the dimm closest to the cooler, but I would rather keep all 4 in use.

Yes removing heatsinks will void the warranty but, no I don't think they are really needed either. I've put my machine through hell and never noticed the RAM getting more than warm to the touch.

I just at a look at a video on the Hyper 212+ and it looks like you could put the fan brackets on the other side of the fan and remount it, reversing the airflow. Hopefully the fan blades would clear the radiator fins.

I faced the same problem with the same RAM and a Noctua CPU cooler. I considered removing the aluminium heat spreaders, but aside from the warranty being voided, there appeared to be some sort of white tabs between the aluminium casing and RAM chip, and I decided it wasn't worth the risk as the looked like they could be easily damaged - I went with a different cooler in the end.

They probably aren't required, but I agree - I wouldn't try and prise them off.

Yup, the white stuff is adhesive based thermal compound.

Hmmm, see my aim was to get a hydro cooler, where ram size doesn't matter, this hyper 212 plus is just a temporary stand in. To make it fit I have already swapped what side the fan is on, but imagine the back of my antec 300. I have the stock rear mounted fan on 50% of the medium speed (fans have a tab allowing you to pick high medium or low, so it's on medium, for noise sake, then lowered to 50% that via a fan controller), blowing air out. About 10cm away there is another fan trying to pull air onto the heatsync. This leaves a 10cm gap, with 2 fans trying to pull the air in 2 separate directions, air which has passed over the heatsync, and has warmed up, will either be exhausted out a 140mm stock exhaust fan ontop, at 100% medium speed, or cycled back around. A 120mm fan on the front at its top speed, with me awaiting a second to put in, will fight against the air coming over the cooler, and encourage a cycle of warm air. I could reverse the fan to pull, but I don't think that would be as effective.

Ah yes, I hope to get a cpu cooler from that series. I was looking at a h100, but I also plan on getting a bitfenix shenobi, and I dont know if it will fit. How do you find the h60? Do you overclock or anything?

The H100 is a good cooler, but you need to replace the fans or put them on a controller/resistor as the stock ones are reportedly loud as buggery.

How do you find the h60? Do you overclock or anything?

The H60 is excellent - I have experimented a bit with OC'ing raising the CPU from 2.80 to 4.00 Ghz (I haven't managed to get it stable yet) and the H60 certainly keeps the CPU well within tolerances.

ha ha, I did say earlier that I could turn the fan around, would that be as efficient though? Well...I suppose given the circumstances the answer would be yes actually .

Is the h60 a single or dual fan setup? If single, is it best to put the fan as an exhaust on the outside? or inside? Or an intake (I wouldn't think an intake would work...you would be blowing warm air into your computer...

As for the h100, I would replace the fans, I have a NZXT Sentry 2 fan controller, although I may be reaching the point of more fans than the controller can handle Once again, where do the fans sit? I would like to get a Bitfenix Shenobi, so I would mount it on top, and if the fans were going to be above the radiator, and quite visible, I would use my 2 Silverstone Air Penetrators for it. That is...if the Shenobi can actually fit a dual 120mm radiator, anyone know the answer to that?

The H60 comes with a single fan as standard, but you can easily add a second fan too - I use mine as an exhaust on the outside of the radiator.

Hmmm...that certainly makes the h60 a very tempting option, it looks very nice and would certainly fit in any case I would pick (I am definitely upgrading my antec 300 to something with a few more features and better looks).
