Could really use Some HDD Partitioning help.

One day I booted up my comp & My HDD was Partitioned into 2 Parts. My C: Drive Also my Boot Drive has Windows 7 on it while The other Half of my HDD My F: Drive has all my files on it. I was wondering how I could Merge these to Together without hurting or losing anything on my comp? Thanks in advance

Why do you want to? Is there an over-riding reason to merge them?

Merging them is going to change a lot of things.

Basically, you want to move all the stuff on F: to C: then delete F: partition, this will make the space 'unallocated', then you can merge it with C: and have all your stuff on one partition.

Because I boot off my C: Drive & That drive only has like 10gb but its mostly taken up by Windows 7 So I dont have room to download Programs

Move your files off of F.

Then you should be able to do what you need to do in Windows Disk Management.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as F contains only personal data.

This is not quite clear. I suggest you post a picture of your Disk Management and tell us what is on which partition - especially whether you have user data on C:.

Oh dear.

Well I think you May have a little trouble if you DONT have the space on C:\ to move all the Data From F:\

So if this is the Case I suggest the Following, And plz Follow this too the "T"

1, open Disk manager.
2, Click on F:\ And select Shrink
3, Whats left over Format and move data over.
4, Delete the F:\ partition
5, Extend the C:\ partition
6, Move or leave the Data depending on how much space you have made for C:\

For most spinning hard drives it makes sense to have a separate OS/Installed programs partition and another - call it a data partition.
The ability to do sensible imaging is the reason.
Once you lump everything into one partition you must image the whole partition and these can become ridiculously large.

I recommend ~100GB for OS/program partition and use the rest for a data partition. This excludes additional partitions like System Reserved (TINY) and recovery partitions.

Once you backup your F: Partition resizing is straightforward. Even easier with free Partition Wizard.

Given the small size of your HDD if you are not planning to upgrade the drive I would restrict the OS partition to 60GB.

BUT you have your pagefile on F: and it is also System active meaning you have boot files on F: which will need to be transferred to C:. So I would have the pagefile on C: and have it as System active, Boot.

Upgrading the HDD to a larger one at some stage is worth considering.

Your F drive is marked system, active, and page file.

You need to get those system files moved onto C and you need to mark C as the active drive.

Don't delete F until you do that.
