Could This Software Be TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? Need Your Honest Opinion.

Hello. I have a question to ask you that I CANNOT RESOLVE THIS ON MY OWN and I "could" (MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT) ultimately have a software security issue. I am too much on the fence!!!!!

I have installed software as a matter of a free find online, a free version for a good red eye remover. I have the well reviewed Picasa 3 that I recommend for general photo editing, but it is terrible regarding the red eye removal component. I have had several times using it to fix the red eye issues. I used a few other programs that I went ahead and had to install that were reputable and they made a mess of the process or didn't even work well like Picasa 3 -- left part of the red eye in the image. I bet it may be JUST this ONE image I am having issues with, but if there is one with issues correcting red eye; there are bound to be more.

I did some Googling and found a program that is supported by CNet called Red Eye Remover (version 2):

Now usually anything that comes from CNet editorial reviews is "typically" trustworthy. Even the user reviews (2 at this time) are giving it very good reviews. (I also notice that CNet has reviewed many of this software company's OTHER products and given it good reviews likewise with users too.) Now, I notice the parent homepage for this software is called VicMan Software. http://www.vicman.net/index.htm . Yah, first thing I thought is WOW!!! ALL FREE!!! (At the same moment, I also believe that you get what you pay for... ...and... ...if it is too good to be true, it probably is!) They offer MANY decent FREE products that you would normally have to pay for -- DEFINATELY!!! Some of their software programs look pretty advanced, even if they are component parts typically on fully featured on loaded software packages or suites you pay for.

I did download and installed the needed product Red Eye Remover. I used it and it works EXCELLENTLY!!! It solved fixing the red eye in ALL my images!

Now... ...I get that gut feeling after I am done using it, is if I SHOULD keep it on my system or not?!?!? Yah, you got what you wanted out of it, but now the worry begins! I do have WOT installed on several of my browsers that I typically depend on for "safe" websites. I see any product by VicMan Software shows an orange indicator or warning about their software on WOT. I have read the reviews on WOT for this web source. So I uninstalled Red Eye Remover v.2 for safely sake. However, I never had an issue while I used it for a few days. It might be a totally clean program or the rest of their program(s). The setup installer EXE tested "negative" for malware per Norton Internet Security and a fully system scan before and after the installation proved "negative" too. I would love to have them, but it all seems to good to be true too!!!

So what is your conclusion?? Trust or not to trust??? Give your rationale for your inclinations. I am asking for your opinion by looking at the evidence I have provided, if you do or do not trust this program or programs from this developer regardless if you had or not have any prior experience from this developer. Would YOU use their software at face value? know your response is only an educated guess and you will not be held liable for your comments, but I am looking for your best assumptions from what I have provided above.

Individual user comments can be chancy. Lots of people don't even know what they're looking at and seeing.
The downchecks on the site and it's contents could well be from ignorance.
Cnet has been around for a while, has access to all the same info you do and a reputation to protect.
If they're recommending, off the top of my head, at first blush, without spending half an hour digging into it, I'd not be worried.
Your meeting your responsibility to have good malware/virus etc etc protection should complete the security loop.
There ain't much i life that's a sure thing, you have to evaluate the odds.
