Hello Jamal,

What were you wanting to delete these system folders for? Are you having some sort of issue?

The “System Volume Information” is used by System Restore (System Protection) for restore points.

The “$RECYCLE.BIN” is used to store the deleted files for that specific volume until emptied from the Recycle Bin.

Windows puts those folders on the drive when its setup/formatted. Leave them alone, if youre getting low on disc space, get a bigger disc, or get rid of some of your files, not windows ones.

Keep an eye on them

You have to watch those folders though.

My external HDD (the one I use at TAFE) gets a new user SID entry, every time I connect it to the PCs in the classrooms.
I can only delete files from the Recycle Bin (using Windows) if I connect to the same PC at a later date. :(

I was wondering where my HDD space was going and then I happened to check the "$RECYCLE.BIN" and discovered that there was a deleted VM sitting in one of the SID folders.
I couldn't delete the file from my home PC (using Windows).
I ended up deleting the file using my Ubuntu install.

That said, you shouldn't delete "$RECYCLE.BIN". :)
