Solved CPU Compare for Old "Closet Computers"

I just drug out a couple old computers I stored away in my closet for a while, thinking about setting it up for my sisters. Neither one of then are windows seven, i don't believe, but excuse me for asking please.
I opened then up and took a look at the processors (I replaced one of the computers processors before, and couldn't remember if my step-dad changed anything with the other (he gave it to me a few years back), or else i would've just searched the specs).
One of the processors is an Intel® Celeron® D Processor 352 (512K Cache, 3.20 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), the other an Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor supporting HT Technology 3.00E GHz, 1M Cache, 800 MHz FSB. I know one IS 64-bit, which is generally faster, but i decided to compare them on the Intel website and was wondering if anyone could give their words of wisdom.
It's just a computer for them to use for school, so they don't need to be generally fast, I would just like to know for sure which one is quicker

I would go for the Pentium, Celeron was a low end, low cost CPU.

i have a 4ghz non HT pentium 4 pc laying about, still fairly nippy for every day tasks, with mine its only held back by the mear 1gb of ram installed! so even watching a dvd causing things to stutter! how did we live back then!!!!!!

It can be done, but the most important thing is the maximum memory that the motherboard will take.

I was noticing that the celeron was 3.2 GHZ but only 512k cache, and the pentium was 3.0, but 1M cache, so I'm not sure if that would have a big effect or not on the overall speed

--Each has 2gb of memory, I'll have to check to see if I can upgrade them maybe

The Passmark benchmark for a Celeron D 3.20 is 313.

The Pentium 4 3.00 scores 362. Not an earthshaking difference, but you may as well take it.

and, if you don't mind me asking, whats the best way to get rid of the dust in this thing?

I'm a big fan of using compressed air to blow out the dust bunnies. But I have a compressor and 50 ft hose.
You can use compressed air in a can, but be careful using the types that leave a residue.

Second best is to disassemble the PC and vacuum the dust out with the help of a 1" or 1-1/2" natural bristle paint brush to loosen the dust. Be sure to use only plastic utensils and follow good static precaution procedures when vacuuming.

I would use the Pentium 4 for sure.
The next thing I would do is find out what motherboard is install and then find out what options for upgrades their is. Such as ram and/or video card.
Will the Pentium 4 boot? If it does use this program to find out what you are working with. Knowing what you have is the first step in getting where you want to go.
