Does any one know what good upgrades I could get for Socket 462? I am clueless and what not... as this machine is VERY slow and I can't get many tasks done on it... since it's CPU is way to slow. Any proccessors built for performance and reliable? Any suggestions?

P.S. My current CPU usage when I finnished boot up and IE is running...

Runs on Dell speakers, with some Dell and NEC fans to cool off the system board.
Socket 462 is as good as dead, mate. I have some good Socket A (462) processors (XP3200 AND XP2500) and a few gigs of DDR ram lying about but it is not worth trying to hunt up a good secondhand motherboard for them. New ones are not available here in Oz.

You might be able to find some secondhand gear but you are better off saving your dollars to get something more modern imo .

black dog is right, you might just need to save the pennies for new hardware. A new mobo & cpu should not cost the earth these days anyway. You would just need to find a board that is compatible with your other hardware (e.g. Ide/SATA ports depending on your rig, power requirements, memory slots).

All the above (if needed) can be fairly cheap, you just need to look around for a good deal.

Nothing to expect in terms of performance if you keep the socket 462.
Buying the very last (and faster) AthlonXP for few box on Ebay may only give you a little jump, nothing really noticable.
Even the slower Core 2 Duo (or Pentium Exxx based on Core 2, socket 775) will give a big kick in the ass ;)
If your budget is really tight maybe should you have a look to some AthlonX2 on socket AM2/AM2+

Wasn't there a Socket A sempron that was 3GHz? Should be able to get one from ebay if you really only want to do the cpu and not cpu + mobo...

The faster Sempron on socket A was a 3300+.. which run at 2200Mhz
The faster AMD CPU on socket A was the Athlon XP Barton 3200+ wich run at ... 2200Mhz

You can#t get that many Task done because its an old Single-Core CPU. As long as you don't get at least a DualCore every OS newer than Win2k will be crappy slow. The newer ones have too much threads in the background to be handled by just one Core. Not sure what is available in the US but for Germany a setup like this could be affordable an not too old.
Mainboard:

Foxconn G31MX-K Mainboard Preisvergleich - Preise bei idealo.de

CPU:
I love this one but will be maybe too expensive:

Core2Duo E8400.
Best Buy in Terms of OC, Energy Efficiency and very very fast.

E4300:

not that fast but half the price.

Not the question asked - but you could still get some use out of this computer -- set it up as a simple Linux file, print email and webserver.
Have MySQL and php as well (LAMP server)

I'm not suggesting you switch to Linux but the machine is good enough for doing this -- great learning tool as well.

Meanwhile there's really good bargains to be had on new machines currently - although why not now "Roll your own".

Windows 7 will work FREE for 1 year approx as well so even on a "purchased machine" you can get rid of all the crapware that is usually pre-installed on these type of machines.

Get a minimum of 4GB -- and whatever size - even on a 1GB system I'd load up the X-64 version of any W7 build. I've run Photoshop CS4 on a 1GB laptop running x_64 build 7077. No problems actually -- it wan't too slow either.

Cheers
jimbo
