CPU Usage 100% while watching streaming video

Hey all,

I have been using beta Windows 7 for quite some time now with no problems. I switched to an Enterprise version of the final product once e it came out, and i have had weird driver problems ever since.

1st (this problem hasn't happened recently) - i would want to watch an online video, of any sort, like youtube or sidereel, but when the video would start up it would chop out and freeze and i could not use audio afterwards. Literally, my iTunes on my computer wouldnt play music, i couldnt run any videos from my harddrive. It just shut off. The only way i could watch youtube was to play iTunes first, then it works. i dont know what that is.

2nd - my problem now has been CPU usage. if i have ONE chrome window watching abc.com shows, my CPU will hit 100% and my fan will continuously run. This never happened on XP or vista, or 7 beta, but it happens all the time in 7 enterprise. I check processes on task manager and i just get that my chrome browser (with playing video) eats up all my memory.

Any help would be wonderful! I literally have to close all programs just to watch youtube, and i still have to pause from time to time, shrinking the video from full-screen in order to give it a rest!

Hi,
Flash is a very CPU-using add on. Try the following to resolve this issue:
1. Open up Windows update, click "Search for updates". Go to "Optional updates" and select all non-language pack updates. Update and re-install.
2. Update your video drivers (use google)
3. Use a different web browser.

thanks for your help thus far. i have some problems with your recs. I have no outstanding updates that are non-language left to install. My roommate has a different version of 7 (not enterprise) and i know he has gotten many more updates to install than i have. I really haven't had very many updates to install in the first place.

I will update the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com because i already did through windows alert and it hasn't really helped at all...

have you heard of anything like this? Flash may be cpu-intense, but i have had this laptop for 3 years and have never had this problem on vista, xp, or 7 beta. the online flash screwing up my iTunes music and audio offline makes me think some sort of registry or driver problem.

It could be Chrome...When I had Vista, Safari was taking over 200,000K and around 50% CPU and all I was doing was viewing a webpage...I switched back to Firefox and all of those problems were resolved. Try on IE and see if it happens. If it doesn't then you know what is causing the problem
