I am very green but can follow clear, not too advanced instructions
. Running Windows 7 Pro +SP1 64x, on Toshiba Satellite A305 with Avast and Malwarebytes. Using Mozilla Firefox 11.0 and ixquick & Startpage Search Engines.
Experiencing: Crash Dump, Freezing after windows open. Excessive start up time and just a lot of waiting for the system to open and operate. I was unable to access the web unless in SafeMode with Internet access. I was getting the message: No Audio Services. Task Manager was freezing as well, Internet Explorer was attempting to open while running Mozilla. Did a restore last week to the point when I reinstalled Windows 7 2-28-2012. Ran a Memory Diagnostic and there is no evidence of Memory difficulty. I would like to debug but can't seem to access the correct file and don't want to completely ruin my computer, or cause more that is already manifesting. I downloaded an update for my BIOS from Toshiba but I will make this a last effort as it sounds like it has extremely high consequences if you mess up. Thank you for any help you can offer. Here is the log file from "
Hijack This" run pre Restore Point. I ran this after researching this site. It was recommended to not take action unless experienced. I'm not:

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Crash Dumps, Freezing, Hanging I ran a log file

Thank you zigzag3143, I am grateful for your help.
1)When I last entered Safe mode with Networking I was severely restricted with what I could do. That is why I did the restore to enable me to do the Memory Diagnostic etc. Should I try to get to these files in regular mode first?2) I know of overclocking but don't know how to do it. I will do the copy of the file and report back on the success of that before go further. I had school work so I couldn't do anything before now.Again, Thank you very much!

Zigzag 3143, I completed the first 6 steps of your instructions. What is meant by ,"Reboot if changes have been made."? I unchecked Autorestart when I clicked on the Startup & Recovery Settings Button. Is this the type of change to which you are referring? Also, I do not see the contents of the \Windows\Minidump file I am to copy. Where is it stored? I am very very green and I ask your patience. Please excuse.

Um, the DMP's are stored in C:\windows\minidump. If it is not there yu can search for *.DMP

No worries, we were all new to this at one point.

The most recent crash is corrupt and UN-useable The second most recent you have Avast and AVG running. Never a good idea. I would un-install both and use MSE at least to test.

I note you have AVG.
AVG can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S .
Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Download tools and utilities | AVG Worldwide

How long have you had Windows 7 installed on this computer? Did you run the upgrade advisor prior to upgrading to Windows 7?

Based on your bugcheck code, I would recommend checking your hard disk for errors and seeing if the drive is functioning properly with SeaTools.
  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html.
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

  • Run the short and long tests with SeaTools.

Greetings Writhziden!
Windows 7 was installed in 12/10 and was running smoothly until this year. I traveled with my computer in 1/2012 and was on line at a hotel and at a hostel. When I returned I began to see problems, before that it ran flawlessly. It was installed by my cousin's ex, a person who is highly competent in the Computer field. It was running Vista and he totally removed it and did a clean install of Windows 7. Tomorrow is my last day of school and I would like to run those programs you advised, after that time. It is working better for some reason. I did uninstall Avast and install MSE. That seems to be the difference. It stll takes time to go on line and even to run Task Manager. The CPU usage stays stuck at 0% for quite a while and the Physical Memory shows only 24-31% engaged then it jumps up when it finally connects. The help I had been originally given by Zigzag 3143 stopped after I sent my last reply. I was thinking they were doing finals as well and couldn't take the time so I thank you for your assistance. I am grateful.

Crash Dumps, Freezing, Hanging I ran a log file

Greetings Writhziden, School is out and graduations are over. I have begun the download of Sea Tools and was told .Net Framework 4.0 was missing. I installed it. I ran check disk and it reported: "This volume is in use by another process Chk dsk might report errors when no corruption is present." I didn't know what to make of this. I ran chk dsk 2x and have included the 2nd chk dsk report.
I wasn't given the option to check any boxes as you instructed:
"Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log."
I would be grateful if you would send needed instructions of how to save/extract and print logs. I went to the Event Viewer-Overviewer & Summary but couldn't extract the data to send. I created JPGs of the Event Viewer Admin logs since 5-17-2012) The data seems repetitive until the end of 5-18 and the beginning of 5-17, then some variety appeared.
I also created paint JPGs of the Sea Tools rpts and from Sea Tools- System Tools drop down menu, printed the Sys Info- Startup Programs and include those as well.
Do I still do the Seagate for DOS?
Thank you.

Many of these errors point to a failing hard disk, but some point to a bad Windows installation. To be sure, you should run SeaTools for DOS instead of running in Windows. See if the drive still fails the long test in DOS. If it passes, that would indicate your Windows installation interfered with the long test.

Crash Dumps, Freezing, Hanging I ran a log file

Good day Writhziden!
Sent a quick reply but it seems to have disappeared. I ran a Kaspersky Security Scan which reported I had no firewall, however, Control Panel /action center reports Windows firewall is on. Which do I trust. I am now going to study the tutorial from Seagate on the Dos Tool bootable CD ISO. If I run into trouble I'll let you know. Thank you

You're welcome. I can check your security if you'd like me to.

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file. To get this: Start Menu -> Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box -> When it opens, go to File, Save -> Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember -> Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info -> Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder -> Upload the .zip file here.

Writhziden, Greetings! Got an instant summer job where there was no computer connection. Back to face same troubles but leaving again Tuesday for last 3 weeks before school start on 8-22. Picking up where we left off I am attaching the msinfo file you asked for from today.
New troubles. Running Seagate long test was an absolute failure. The system wouldn't boot from the disc I made (I made 3 different disks). I decided the best tactic was to back up my computer. i have been trying to back onto a WD Passport Essential 500G USB drive and all i get this this error- error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
I have even started copying just certain files to make sure that I have the most needed files and I have even gotten this error. My laptop, when powered now just hangs and won't do anything but just sit there even after it load windows which takes a long time from 1 minute to 45. I continue to get crash dumps and black screens. More challenged than before.
