Hello,

i have been experiencing crashes while playing DOTA 2 mostly. Started seeing it awhile ago, thought it might be a graphics thing, so i turned the setting all the way down, and it seemed to work for the most part, but it started popping up again.

i was due for a new graphics card, so i upgraded from my amd 5770 to a new amd r9 280. played one game on lowest settings against bots, worked fine. played another game on default settings against other players and crashed again.

usually is not a BSOD, it will either crash and restart, or freeze and need to be re-booted.

this is a homebuild, a few years old specs are

amd phenom II x4 955
amd radeon r9 280
8gb ddr3 1600 ripjaws
gigabyte motherboard

any help would be appreciated

Whilst the .dmp files don't specifically isolate the cause, I see lots of tcpip references, pointing to a possible issue with the network drivers.

Start by checking that your Realtek and Broadcom driver are up to date (they look outdated to me) - check the manufacturers site for drivers.

seemed like it was working ok, but had another crash today. i believe i had correctly downloaded new realtek drivers, and my broadcom wireless adapter was old and i had a hard time finding drivers, so i bought a new netgear usb wireless dongle and installed.

doesnt look like a new dump file was generated this time for some reason. BSOD error code that i got this last time was:

SYSTEM_SERVER_EXCEPTION

STOP 0x0000003B (0X00000000C0000005, 0XFFFFF800034C82E2, 0XFFFFF88084AE070, 0X0000000000000000)

not sure if this is just coincidence, but i seems like when i play later at night on the weekends (after 10pm) i can play ok, but during the week before 9pm, i see crashes most of the time.

Please do the following:

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html

Driver Verifier will cause your computer to run very sluggishly - this is normal. What it is trying to do is force your system to BSOD and isolate the offending driver/s. When it does, reboot, disable driver verifier, reboot as normal and upload the new dmp file/s here.

I recommend creating a system restore point before turning on driver verifier:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/697-system-restore-point-create.html

If your system fails to boot to desktop once driver verifier is enabled, turn it off by booting into Safe Mode:

I followed the steps for the verifier. tried 3 times, but each time the pc booted to the windows log screen, but it would freeze up at that point. no BSOD, the picture on the sceen would break up and freeze. was able to boot up in safe mode and turn off the verifier.
