Welcome aboard.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

I used the driver verifier and it crashed
computer would not restart, always get bsod death
I had to go into safe mode and used system restore
only thing I saw was ntoskrnl.exe+5053dc and vim_vimx64.sys

very frustrating

can not find the dump log for it, guess system restore wipe them out

vim_vimx64.sys - no, it is uim_vimx64.sys. It is Paragon Image Mounter (UIM) Plugin driver.

As we dont have much more information, go for uninstallation of paragan. It will solve the issue hopefully. All the image mounters are causing troubles.

And, Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Let us know the situation after the changes taken place.

It is caused by Sonic CD/DVD driver, used by many manufacturers.

Go to the manufacturer's website and try to update it.

If anything is not possible about updating, and you fail to get a version later of 2009, uninstall iTunes and QuickTime.

Let us know the situation after applying the changes.

Ok, just getting back to this
Have not had a bsod since.
I will see if I can update the drivers
device manager shows they are Microsoft drivers installed

actually that driver is used by some dvd authoring programs, which wrongly monitor the optical drives all the time, and thus cause crashes.

until it is not crashing again, dont worry.

if it crashes again we will search for it.

In this case, you are suggested to update Cyberlink's version or uninstall it, use Shark007's Windows 7 codecs as WMP codecs and use VLC media player as another player (first choice to play audio/video in most of the cases) and then see if the situation changes or not.

If you think the BSOD issues are over, you may mark this thread as solved.
