Crashing Help needed

All AVs can cause BSODs but MSE is generally BSOD-friendly
I have installed Norton and continue to watch event viewer. Nothing yet. It may be great, but has all the bells and whistles. I know I can turn them off, but all I ever wanted was a simple, effective, lightweight anti-virus program. Norton is not that.

So, do you think something went wrong during my installation with MSE to cause all the problems I was having?

Also- I am coming up dry on event ID 5. has happened may 10 times in the last month. Should I be worried bout it? Have any pointers there?

You shouldn't worry about that unless it affects your system stability ;)
Did you try Avast Free?

Sorry for the interupt, but just reading the OP's first few comments (about it crashing only at his father's house and not his), could the electricity supply be a factor?

It could indeed be power but even this does not rule out the errors in Event Viewer
The removal of MSE totally cured the BSODs :)

Absolutely! Crashing gone. Still watching Norton. I have something new popping up. A n error event 4321 source= NetBT.

Something like:
"The name "WORKGROUP :1d" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 192.168.1.107. The computer with the IP address 192.168.1.100 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer."

It is new since all of the work at the beginning of the week, but at this point I am considering it an anomoly and watching it further. Happened one time in the last 24 hours.

Strange thing- The error shows it occurred at 2:07 am. I just happened to see the HTPC wake up all by itself at about 2:07am. A short time later it went back to sleep. Go figure.

This is a network error mostly as a a result of conflicts
Reset your network stack and reconfigure it
Reset TCP/IP networking stack in Windows 7 and Vista | L.A.M.N.K

Malware can also be the cause, run a scan of Malwarebytes
